Catherine Mitchell (nee Legge)

November 7, 1934 to March 24, 2021

Catherine Mitchell (nee Legge) passed peacefully away at Glenbrook Lodge, St. John’s, NL March 24, 2021. She will be lovingly remembered by daughter Beverly (Loyola), daughter Janet, son Dave (Cathy), and grandsons Shayne and Ricky. Cathy will be sadly missed by sister Sheila (George), brother Bernard (Beth), and sister Marilyn (Neal), sister-in-law Barbara, along with many nieces and nephews. She had a special place in her heart for her niece Lynn and great-niece Myaella, both of whom hold dear memories of times spent with her.

Cathy is predeceased by her husband George (1996) and partner Peter (2014), her sisters Edith and Elsie, and brothers Charles (Bud), Robert, and Fred.

Cathy was the middle child of Leola and Wlliam Legge, and grew up in Robinsons, NL as part of an extended family with grandparents, aunts, and uncles, all of whom played distinctive roles in her life. She was involved with her church, had many friends, and was known to be a wonderful hostess who loved to entertain and enjoy the company of others.

Thank you to the staff of Glenbrook Lodge who took care of her, and especially those who gave her the gift of time—listening to her stories, joking with her, curling her hair, varnishing her nails, and helping her look her best—all the little “Big” things that enhanced her quality of life.

Cathy’s ashes will be taken to Robinsons at a later time, where her wish to be buried alongside family members will be honored.

Bev and family,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your mother.

Thinking of you at this difficult time.

I have many great childhood memories visiting Aunt Cathy and Peter in Dartmouth, camping in the driveway and playing around her house. Her laugh, love of hosting, and showing us a great time around Halifax are especially memorable. It was a whole other world for a boy from Robinsons, and maybe my love of city life wouldn’t have been born without experiencing the passion she had for downtown Halifax and Spring Garden Road.
She had a tremendous impact on me at a young age and I will never forget those times.
My condolences.

Bev,Jan & Dave we are greatly saddened by Aunt Cathy’s passing.. I was honoured to have her in my life as a child, a teenager and a mother. Aunt Cathy and Peter were with myself and Charles when Myaella was born and they were a part of her and our life ever since. She is remembered as a wonderful ,independent and compassionate woman who wasn’t afraid to take risks, live life and laugh loud and often. Rest in Peace you were loved and will be missed.

Love talking to. Catherine over to home.enjoy. Her company. Great lady.

My sincere condolences on the passing of your mom. I have only the best memories of aunt Cathy; from our childhood visits to her in Stephenville, the many letters she took the time to write me when she moved to Nova Scotia and the wonderful times she and Peter showed my sister and I when we visited her in Dartmouth. She was simply the “coolest” aunt….so beautiful, so kind, so very funny and best of all….unforgettable. Rest in Peace Aunt Cathy. I love you.

Rest In Peace aunt Cathy Justin and I always enjoyed spending time at her house when we were kids and i remember all of her cats say hi to papa for me in heaven hope u to are having fun together

Beverly, Janet and Dave
My deepest condolence on the loss of your mother. Over the years that Aunt Cathy lived in Dartmouth she brought much joy and laughter to our family and we adored her. She never missed a birthday party or holiday celebration and hosted many of these parties and holiday celebrations at her home. Christmas Eve at Aunt Cathy’s was a tradition. She was with us at the hospital when her great nephews, Justin and Jordan were born.
On ordinary days we would shop, go to movies, go out for lunch or drinks, visit each other at home and talk on the phone. There was lots of talking on the phone. We talked about every subject imaginable and Aunt Cathy had a firm and often humorous opinion on everything. That was one of the many things I loved about her.
When she moved back to NL, though we couldn’t see each other and do the things we used to do, we still talked on the phone almost every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day.
I miss her, but she will live forever in my heart.
Rest In Peace Aunt Cathy. ❤️

We have wonderful memories of Aunt Cathy. Her spirited personality filled a room, her laugh was infectious and I always thought her “so fancy” when I was a child! I might not have my ears pierced to this day if she hadn’t taken me under her wing 🙂 She was a lovely lady and will be missed; our condolences. Kira Murphy and family.

My Aunt Cathy seemed larger than life to me . As a kid I was captivated by her outgoing spirit and her sense of glamour. It was always a pleasure to hear her contagious laugh. She loved children and was crazy about Justin and Jordan. May she rest in peace alongside the other loving members of her family.

Dear Beverly and Janet,

We are so sorry to know of your Mom’s passing but are grateful to have gotten to know you both during our many evening visits, chats and snacks in the lounge. Your mother seemed like a great lady, and it is so wonderful that she had a long life, cared for daily by her daughters and Loyola. Take care and we hope to see you again some day.

I have many fond memories of visiting Aunt Cass and Peter when visiting the Dartmouth area growing up, and very much enjoyed visiting them when they moved back home to Robinson’s in my teenage years. That great laugh from Aunt Cass will always be with me and something I will always cherish. Our condolences. Cathane Legge and family.

Rest In Peace beautiful aunt Cathy. I have so many wonderful memories of her . She was an elegant woman with a zest for life and a laugh that filled up a room. My deepest condolences to her children, siblings and all of her family and friends . Much love , Lois Legge and family.

So sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. I got to know her while my Mom (Marguerite White) was a resident at Glenbrook. She was a beautiful lady.
Take care.

I am sorry to for your loss. My father (Leo Lane) also resided at the Glenbrook Lodge and I remember seeing Catherine around while we were there.

To Mrs Mitchell’s family. I first met Cathy while working at Arlim Company. Long before she became my brother’s Mother-in-law. She always treated me with respect and this continued throughout my life as we moved along with our careers. She was also able to teach me how to handle and complete some tasks that were required while employed together. I have good memories of Cathy and as I wrtite this note some of our laugh we shared along the way are going through my mind.
To all of Cath’s family, we extend our condolences and may Cathy rest in peace.
