Obituary
Passed peacefully away while surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the health Sciences Centre, St. John’s, Cecilia (Whelan) Bowen of Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay, aged 80 years.
Predeceased by her parents Jack and Sadie Whelan, brothers John, George and Richard, sister Sister Josephine, nephew Dean Kielly and all other relatives of the Whelan and Bowen families.
Leaving to mourn her loving husband of 60 years, Richard, sons Ricky (Ruby), Gerard (Denise), and Desi (Sheila), daughter Jeana (Dana), grandchildren Vincent (Lauren, Finley & Oliver), Travis (Natalie, Jacob, Avery, Alivia), Devon (Ashley & Anna), Brady (Kayla), Ryland (Teddy, Tatum and Cullen), Aniessa, Kayla (Vaughn, Roxas), Jake; brothers Basil (Laura), and Des (Barb); sisters Nancy (Terry), and Uriel (Angus); Joanne; sisters-in-law Ruth, Mary, and Madeline, as well as many cousins, relatives and friends, and godchildren Jeanette Barron and Ena Gibbons and her fur baby Lucy.
Cecilia’s family would like to thank the staff of the Health Sciences Centre, St. Clare’s hospital, and Chancellor Park, Todd and St. Mary’s Pharmacy staff, Gibbons Ambulance Services, Dr. and Mrs. McGarry, Gloria White and best of Care Staff, especially her home care workers Sarah Squires, Agnes Squires, Samantha Skelly and Shannon Critch for their dedicated care. Special thanks to Father Steve for his monthly visits, prayers, laughter, and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
A service of prayers will be held at the Riverhead Church on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 2 PM.
A Mother’s Love is a blessing, but it was a blessing to be loved by our mother.
Deepest condolences to Richard, Rick, Gerard, Desi, Jeana and the extended family. Cecilia was loved by many and her passing is felt deeply. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sad to hear of your Mother’s passing. Indeed as I read what Jeanna’s Facebook post says she couldn’t have described her Mother better. She was a very special lady filled with love.
