Obituary

RECEPTION UPDATE:

Due to expected poor weather on Wednesday,

the reception for Clare Eagar has been moved to

FRIDAY, 16 FEBRUARY, FROM 2 -4 P.M.

Passed away peacefully on February 6 at St. Clare’s hospital after a lengthy illness, Clare Eagar RN. Trained at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London,

Clare emigrated to Newfoundland in 1967 with her husband Stuart who predeceased her in 2022.  Since their arrival in 1967 both Clare and Stuart were deeply involved in Motorsports.  From the Argentia circuit, to Rally Racing and Vinland Motorsports, Players Newfoundland (‘74), Montreal Grand Prix, to the present Targa Newfoundland – both held managerial and executive positions.

Clare will also be widely missed by the national figure skating community. She was a judge and Coordinator for Synchronised Skating in the province for many years. Her outstanding sewing talents were a cornerstone for many local skaters and dancers.

Special mention from the owners, teachers, and dancers from The Dance Academy. She was an integral part of every dance recital.

Stuart devoted many years to teaching at the Marine Institute (formerly College of Fisheries). He shared Clare’s deep passion for gardening along with sailing and woodworking.

Celebrating Clare and Stuart’s life are their children Alison (Michael and grand daughters Tori and Catie) their son Mark, along with Stuart’s sister Helen Cundiff (Australia), and Clare’s sister Scilla Leung (Ontario).

A wonderful hug of thanks to her long-time friends Anne Hughes, Lisa MacDonald and Ann Palmer who, along with Mark, looked after Clare through her illness.

Much gratitude to Dr Joanne Bishop; thanks also to Cancer Care, HSC, and the kind staff of St. Clare’s Hospital.

There will be a reception at Carnell’s Funeral Home to celebrate their lives on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH, 2024 from 2-4pm. Please note that Carnell’s Funeral Home is nut free building due to a staff member with a severe nut allergy. Thank you for your understanding.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA to reflect their lifetime “obsession” with (particularly) Siamese cats.

Dear Allison and Mark
So sorry to read this.
I used to babysit you, and I remember your Siamese cat…Sam, maybe?
Sending you both my deepest condolences.

Dear Alison and family,
We are so incredibly sorry to hear of the sad passing of your mother Clare. Our thoughts are with you at this terrible time. Whilst we did not have the opportunity to meet your her, Margie and I have seen how much of an incredible mother and kind soul you are to your beautiful daughters, family and friends, and that can only be a positive reflection on how your mum raised you. Our love, Courtney and Margie

Alison,so sorry for your huge loss. Please try to find comfort in all the precious memories of your beautiful Mom.Your Mom ALWAYS spoke so proudly of you, whenever we would meet I’d always get an update on you and your family and she always smiled as she spoke of you all. She was a beautiful kind talented lady, who made several skating dresses for me and thousands of others! One of my favorite memories is when I took on a big project to make myself a dress.I can’t tell you how many times I showed up at her door and we would go to her sewing room and she would help me fix an issue I had. I wore that dress proudly that Christmas and I still have it in my closet today( long out of style but will never part with it). Your Mom was a beautiful soul and will be missed by many. So sorry I won’t get to see you on Friday as I’m heading to Guatemala on a medical mission with Team Broken Earth, but will be thinking of you all in the coming days.

Alison and family,
I have so many wonderful memories of your mom. From the many skating dresses she made for me over the years to the countless number of seminars she spent as “house mother”. During the trips that I made to your family home for dress fittings I remember your mom’s attention to detail along with the always charming and clever wit of your father. Sending my deepest condolences to your family and hoping you hold closely all the treasured fond memories.

Eagar family
Sorry for your loss. David and I met mom and dad many years ago when they moved to Newfoundland and dad started work at the old fisheries college. Over the years we would be in touch. They always seemed to be enjoying life here. Mom always wished she could have seen more of her grandchildren. All the best

Stuart and family. Sincere condolences on your immense loss. I have some great memories of the early Targa days

To the family and friends of Clare and Stuart.
We send our very sincere sympathies at this sad time. We knew Clare and Stuart for many years through our involvement in local motorsports-rallying, circuit racing at Argentia and slaloms on ice, amongst others. Clare and Stuart were always there with encouragement, smiles and friendship. Thinking of you now and in the difficult days ahead.

Clare was a positive inspiration to everyone she knew and helped, in so many facets of the vocations that she supported.

I will remember her fondly every time we harvest the berry cuttings that she gave us many years ago that still grow in our garden here in St. John’s.

My deepest condolences to all the family at this sad time, take comfort in knowing of the difference your mum made in the lives of others.

My sincere condolences to all of Clare’s family and friends at this time. My thoughts and prayers are with you,
