Surrounded by his loving family at home, Clarence passed away peacefully on June 26, 2023 in his 75th year after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Clarence was predeceased by parents Myrtle and James Coffin, Brother Jim Coffin, and special Uncle Steve Cluett. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Patricia of 50 years; son David Coffin (Rebekah); daughter Alison Ball (Gary); precious grandchildren Laura and Riley; Sister Elaine Danells (Norman); Brother-in-law Gordon (Betty), and a large circle of family and close friends.

Clarence was born in Rencontre East and grew up in Grand Falls and then Corner Brook before moving to St. John’s to pursue his academic studies. Clarence spent 32 years at the Janeway Hospital as an X-Ray technologist and later as a clinical instructor.

Once retirement started, he had time to focus on all the things that he enjoyed including extra time to spend with family. He loved to bowl and was an avid sports fan. He loved cheering for his beloved Manchester United, Boston Celtics, and Toronto Maple Leafs.  Clarence was well known for being a military history and aviation enthusiast, and he also loved to collect die cast cars, planes, and helicopters. He was an avid reader, trivia buff, car geek, movie enthusiast and a lover of music.

Clarence’s Twitter account profile perfectly sums him up: “Family man and grandfather. Aviation geek and avid reader of military history. We are here for a good time not a long time, so have a good day.”

The family will be accepting visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home at 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday June 29 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm and Friday June 30 at 10 am -12 pm. The funeral will be held at Carnell’s Chapel on June 30 at 2 pm and will also be lived streamed.

Thank you for the love and support from family and friends during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Janeway Foundation, the SPCA or a charity of your choice in Clarence’s memory.

Please note that Carnell’s is a nut free building, due to a staff member with a severe allergy. Thank you for your cooperation.
