Collin Blair Sangster

October 3, 2004 to October 22, 2023

Obituary

Collin Blair Sangster, 19, of Paradise, tragically passed away Sunday, October 22 in Deer Lake, NL.  Collin was born October 3, 2004 in Whitecourt, Alberta.  He is survived by his parents Blair and Cleide (Dos Santos) Sangster, sister Sophia, nana Marjorie (MacLennan) Sangster, grandmother Sueli Oliviera and family in Brazil.  Collin will also be dearly missed by members of the Sangster and MacLennan families.  Predeceased by grandfather Freeman Sangster.

Collin was a very proud 2022 graduate of Mount Pearl Senior High, where he met many of his lifelong friends.  After graduation, Collin worked various jobs and made a positive impact everywhere he went.

Collin loved playing guitar and exploring the world around him.  Topsail Beach was his favourite spot and he was happiest when his toes were in the water.  His B’ys were always by his side when he was out and his sense of humour kept them laughing.

Collin had the kindest heart, and despite his own needs, he kept his family and friends at the forefront of his mind.  As a natural helper, Collin was always there to lend a hand.  He will be remembered for his hugs, his curiosity, and his philosophical nature.  Collin loved a challenge, be it working, learning, or exploring.  His free spirit will carry on.

Spending his early childhood in Loch Katrine and Bedford, Nova Scotia, Collin always considered Nova Scotia his home.  Collin had an eclectic style, described by his dad as “Shed Chic” to “Indie Rocker”.  He was as comfortable at home relaxing in sweats and a plaid shirt as he was dressed to the nines, expressing his Brazilian roots.

Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Saturday, October 28 from 3-9 p.m.  Funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 29 at 1 p.m.  Collin will be laid to rest alongside his grandfather Freeman in the Sangster family plot in Loch Katrine, Nova Scotia.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Collin’s memory may be made to the SPCA  https://spcastjohns.org/donate/ or Parkinson’s Society of Newfoundland and Labrador https://nlparkinson.ca/donate/.

I am just hearing about Collin’s tragic passing. I had the privilege of being Collin’s grade 3 teacher during my first year at Paradise Elementary. I remember him as being a kind, sweet, and polite boy. His smile was like a ray of sunshine. There are no words to express the loss you are feeling now. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I hope the sweet memories and shared stories of him will be of comfort to you in the weeks ahead.

Blair and Family,
Deepest condolences to you and your family.. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I had the pleasure of teaching Collin grade 12 English. He was such an amazing, kind, soft spoken guy. We always chatted about his amazing fashion sense, and his stylish hair cuts. He used to wear a pink and black sweater, and I told him he had a real 80s fashion vibe. I looked forward to our chats in class each day. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him. Sending my deepest condolences to all.

I had the pleasure of teaching Collin in is his Grade 10 year at MPSH – a bright and kind young man, it was a pleasure to have him in my class. Although I only taught him that one year he would drop by my classroom to visit friends and I was always happy to see him – even just passing each other in the hallway he always made a point to say Hello. He was a lovely guy, and I know that he is truly and deeply missed by his friends, and I can only imagine how his family must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all – he will be missed.

Collin was my student at Mount Pearl Senior High . I first met him in grade 10 where he was in my homeroom for three years. I also had the privilege of being his math teacher for two years. Collin was a bright student, always had a few comments for comic relief and a very vibrant personality. My condolences to his parents and sister and his group of close friends who are surely missing their pal.

Collin was a very kind and generous soul, he was a dear friend to our daughter Jayden for quite sometime and had befriended our other daughter Dominique aswell.

He was so kind to Jayden as she had some challenges after an unhealthy relationship and he was always there to help her and make her laugh, he didn’t care the time day/ night. A true friend for life x He will be with her in spirit always x

I can not express how sorry I am for your loss – absolutely heartbroken x

I met him through my grand daughter. He was such a beautiful soul. I’m so very sorry for your loss 🙁

I was Collin’s math instructor in Corner Brook. From the short amount of time that he was with us I could tell that he was a gentle soul. He talked to me about drawing and we also discussed music. I could tell that he was a deep thinker. I feel heartbroken so I can only imagine the grief that those closest to him must be feeling. Know that you are on my mind and that he will not be forgotten.

Dear Marjorie, Blair, Cleide and Sophia

So very sorry for your immense loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Hold all your memories of Colin close to your heart.

Bernard and Jan Hanifen, friends of Marjorie

I didn’t know Collin personally, but anyone could tell you he was the sweetest, most accepting and supportive person. Everytime I seen him in school he always had the biggest smile on his face. I’m so so sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful soul.

Tho I was not very close to Collin he was still so kind to me and whenever we saw each other we would chat and catch-up on life and what crazy things happened since the last time we had seen each other, the last chat I had with Collin was at a party at good ol uncle Billy’s. At this point in the night it was just us up everyone else asleep throughout the night we caught up talked about a bunch of things and overall let each other say whatever they wanted, he was happy and ready for the next adventure. He was down to earth. Even tho I wasn’t close to Collin he was still a big part of a lot of peoples life’s and will still be here with us all even if it’s not physically.

Collin was one of the best friends a guy could ask for. He always wanted to go somewhere and do something fun, even if that meant staying at home. I don’t know how many times we walked around mount Pearl at who knows what hours of the night just because we were bored. All he ever wanted was for everyone to have a good time and that’s exactly what he gave them. He was the nicest, most free spirited human being I’ve ever known. So much love from the bottom of my heart to anyone grieving the way me and all his friends and family are right now.

So sorry for your family’s loss Blair

Colin was such a great friend to my son Daniel. He came to our home often and always enjoyed the parties. He was so sweet and kind to everyone. He would come in and have a chat with my 75yr old mom. He was kind to Daniel’s sister who really thought the world of him. When he stay for the night he loved having breakfast and told me he loved our homemade bread. We all loved seeing him come, he would just bring such a sweet and peaceful presence with him. Daniel was devestated that he wasn’t here. His memory will always be with us. You both did an amazing job raising such a beautiful soul. May he always be at peace. Our deepest condolences to all of your family near and far.

You are in our thoughts every day. Huge, huge hugs.

Michelke & Kevin
