Daphne Athol Butler (nee Blackmore)

January 5, 1928 to March 5, 2021

Obituary

Passed away peacefully at her home in Kenny’s Pond Retirement Residence on March 5. Born in Templeman, Bonavista Bay, Daphne was the youngest and last remaining child of Peter and Mary Blackmore.

Daphne is predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, Harold (1991), as well as her infant brother, sisters Gertie Garris (Louie), Nathalie Sooley (Chris), Florence Vincent (Maxwell), brother Gordon Blackmore (Carrie), and Harold’s sisters Blanche Peters (Bert) and Alma Swain (Hal).

Daphne leaves to mourn her devoted sons Charlie (Karyn) and Eric (Ruth), and her grandchildren Ryan, Lesley, and Erin (Omar), whom she loved dearly. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and close friends, in Canada and the US.

Daphne will be fondly remembered for her caring disposition, which was a valuable asset to her career as a nursing assistant at several St. John’s institutions.

Those who knew Daphne will also remember her impish nature. She had an infectious smile and a cheeky sense of humour. She made us laugh.

The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Percy Crocker and the wonderful staff at Kenny’s Pond Retirement Residence for the expert care given to Daphne over the last seven years.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held from The Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.

Donations made in Daphne’s memory to a charity of one’s choice will be gratefully appreciated.

Charlie, Eric and families; We were so saddened to learn of Your mom’s, our aunt’s passing. She was always such a joy to all our families during her visits over the years. Most times her visits were like a gentle breeze, but could turn into a hurricane of fun and laughter, especially when she and her sisters would get on with their antics as if they were back in Templeman as kids again. We learned from them, the value of family ties and closeness, which we still value and hold near and dear today. May we all continue to find comfort and joy as we remember all the good that she left us. God Bless.

Charlie, Eric and families;
