Amy Dorothy Forbes (Neal ) Abery passed peacefully away at Chancellor Park, St. John’s, NL on May 17, 2021.  Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years, Dennis Abery; parents Amy Lawrence (Neal) & David Neal; brothers Douglas and Bruce Neal; sister Elizabeth Butler; sister-in-law Joyce Goss and brothers-in-law Harold Butler and Cyril Abery. Leaving to mourn her cherished daughter Jane and “son” Carl Quinlan; sisters-in-law Levina Neal and Sylvia Pretty (Clyde); special niece Tracy Sullivan (Terry) and her children Kyle and Hailie Butler (Alex); along with her nieces, nephews and a wide circle of lifelong friends.

Dorothy is also predeceased by her second husband Robert (Bob) Doyle and leaves to mourn her loving stepchildren: Robert (Toni), Paul (Peggy), Susan (Derek) & Sara (Anthony) and step daughter-in-law Karen Doyle.

A very special thank you to the dedicated staff of Chanchellor Park who embraced Dorothy and fell under her spell providing her with the most compassionate care.

Dorothy loved life to the fullest.  She enjoyed many travel adventures, any opportunity to socialize and being surrounded by her family and friends. Always stylish, never shy to offer an opinion, a social bridge player, talented pianist and avid antique collector were just a few attributes that made Dorothy such a gregarious and vibrant individual. At the prime of her career, she received several regional and national salesperson of the year awards with Welcome Wagon.  Above all, her greatest source of pride and joy was her only daughter, Jane.

At her request, Dorothy has been cremated.  Given the global pandemic and respecting her self diagnosis of germaphobia, there will not be a visitation. A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (The Kirk) on May 28th at 2 PM which will be live streamed for those that wish to join virtually. A limited number can gather in person at The Kirk.  To request an invitation, please email dorothysfuneral@gmail.com

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Kirk Building Fund, Community Food Sharing Association or Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation.  To leave a condolence, please visit www.carnells.com

Hello Jane;
I just learned of your mother’s passing today. My heart breaks for you and your family.

She was a great friend to my mother during their time together at Chancellor Park. I guess they are together again and watching over us both.

I will miss her and remember her fondly.

When I was a child, I would love when we would visit Aunt Dorsie and Uncle Dennis as I knew I would always find a Purity Peppermint or two when I arrived. She will be deeply missed . I’m very grateful that she made the trek to Nova Scotia for mine and Jon’s wedding – it was so special to have her in attendance.

Jane
