Obituary

It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Special Friend to many.  Dorothy Rose “Dot” Jenkins (nee May), formerly of Durrell, Twillingate, passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, April 20th, surrounded by family, at the age of 78 after a period of illness.

Predeceased by her mother Jean May (Legge) and father Frederick May (both of Durrell, Twillingate).

Leaving to mourn with loving, fond, and cherished memories, husband of 57 years, David; daughter Michele Jenkins (Terry) of St. John’s; and grandson Jordan Goodwin of St. John’s. Sisters Ross, Marg (Peter – deceased), Joan (Lloyd – deceased), and Ruby (Paul); brothers Frederick (Audrey) and Edward (Maxine); and many nieces and nephews, residing in Ontario.  Also leaving to mourn, dear friend Cavell Brown (Colin, Chelsea, and Christopher) of Torbay; special neighbors Kimberly Chafe (David and Nicholas Pine); many other wonderful neighbors and friends; as well as her former co-workers of the Glenbrook Lodge Nursing Home in St. John’s.

Dorothy’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of her Doctors who have helped care for her throughout the years; as well as the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of 4SA of the Health Sciences Centre for taking care of our beloved Dorothy throughout her final weeks with us; we are grateful for your kindness, compassion, and empathy during Dorothy’s hospitalization.  Our family would like to thank the Nurses and Staff of Cambridge Estates, where her husband David resides, for their support.

All those who knew Dorothy will cherish all of the fond and loving memories she created for us.  At Dorothy’s request, a private visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd. Funeral service will be on Thursday, April 25th for immediate family at The Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 53 James Lane, St. John’s.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s loving memory can be made to the Janeway Children’s Hospital, as per Dorothy’s wishes.
