I am saddened to hear about the passing of a long ago childhood friend. I went to school with Doug in the Goulds. I remember him well. My condolences to his family & friends. RIP in peace Doug.

Gladys, my deepest condolences to you on the loss of your husband and soulmate. I know how strong your marriage was from the time I was a small child, the love between the two of you was so clear for all to see. The years have flown by so quickly since my childhood days, but I have never forgotten the kindness Doug and you showed to me always including me in so many family activities. Doug was truly a special man, a loving father to his three daughters, a hard worker and very tolerant of all the children in your old neighbourhood. He was comical and you always knew it was him driving up to your home because he would play tunes on the car horn. Whenever I walk in Monkstown Road and see the house where you lived, I think of all the special times I shared with all of you. The service today was beautiful, and everyone did an amazing job. He would be so proud of his daughters and grandchildren. You have lost a very special and important person in your lives. As you remember him, look back on a life well-lived and think of all the precious times you shared together. Treasure the laughter, embrace the memories, and carry the love that will live within you. May those beautiful memories sustain and bring comfort to you at this sad time and in the days ahead. May Doug now rest in God’s beautiful garden.

Kim and family, I was sorry to hear of your father’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
God bless you all,
Grace Chafe

Gladys and Family: Please accept my deepest sympathy on Doug’s passing. What a lovely man, always ready for a chat with a great big smile on his face! I will never forget the help that Gladys and Doug gave for my fundraising a few years ago. Kind people never fully leave us…they just allow their legacy to continue in the families they raise and in the people they touch during their time on this earth. God bless.

I was so very sad to hear of Doug’s passing. I will always remember this fine gentleman with that contagious smile. He often brought our staff at Sobeys baskets of his greenhouse vegetables, the tastiest tomatoes I’ve ever had. Please know, Gladys, Susan, and entire Stanley family, that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr Stanley’s passing. For many years when I worked at the old Stadium, he would come in the door where I worked. For many Christmases he brought me a Poinsettia ! He was a very kind, caring man. And such a hockey fan! .My deepest condolences to his family.

Mrs. Stanley and Family
Doug sat one row behind our seats at the hockey games. Myself, my husband and my father had a great time listening to him and his cousin chat during the games – It did not take long before we were all into the conversations. Doug had a lovely, friendly, and funny spirit. We will remember him fondly and will miss him.

Gladys and Family,

We are so sorry to learn of Doug’s passing. Doug has supplied our business with beautiful flowers for many, many years. We will certainly miss his presence this coming season. It was always pleasant having a chat with Gladys and Doug when visiting the greenhouses over the years. Please accept our sincere condolences.

Aunt Gladys and family we were so saddened to hear of the passing of Uncle Doug. Hold onto all of the wonderful memories you have and cherish them forever. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Its a sad day, but be happy knowing that Doug brought a smile to so many people he crossed paths with.. Always good for a story, a commentary on the latest “goings on”, and advise on what to plant and where. He was an excellent grower, and an old fashioned business man where a nod of the head or a shake of the hand meant what it was suppose too. These traits so rare today was how Doug rolled. I will miss our numerous spring visits, to load the truck with all manner of plants, Have Kim keep a rolling tally and have a chat with Doug. It was as much as sign of spring for us as xmas is to winter . Doug has moved on and I’am sure if there is a garden it will be beautiful.

So sorry for your loss , My sincer Condolences to Doug,s family and friends

I was so sad to hear of Doug’s passing. He was a kind, fun-loving man. Always eager to share stories and tips about his two great passions – gardening and hockey. Doug took immense pride in his attendance record and support of sports clubs at Memorial Stadium and Mile One Centre. He was equally as proud to be the contractor responsible for the beautiful flowers and trees around Mile One and the St. John’s Convention Centre – seeing everything in full bloom brought him no end of joy. He will certainly be missed. My deepest sympathy to Gladys, Kim and Doug’s entire family.

It was so very sad to hear of Doug’s passing. Doug and I were introduced by our mutual good friend Ric Mercer many years ago at Ric’s Gambo Pond cabin and I have cherished his company ever since. He was a pleasure to be around and I so enjoyed it when he’d join us moose hunting, and for the food, (awesome vegetables grown by him of course!) drink and fun times that followed. Doug particularly relished the always competitive crib games that were a big part of the trip. The good natured banter and insults that were hurled were hilarious. Mind you, he won more games than he lost so Ric and I got more than we gave. His love of nature and his amazing talent to reap from the earth the most wonderful vegetables, plants and flowers was something I was in awe of. When I sat down to enjoy a dinner where the bird was raised and the vegetables cultivated by this humble, hard working and generous farmer, I realized how extraordinary a man he really was. He will be missed. My sincerest condolences to his family at this very difficult time.

To the Stanley family. My sincere condolences on Doug’s passing. He was always a fun guy to be around every summer when visiting for flowers. He always joked around because I always said to him if the flowers don’t last, I’m looking for a refund. He said come back with them and I charge you double for the next purchase. Great person. He will be missed. RIP Doug
