Obituary
Passed peacefully away at the Pleasantview Towers Elias James Gosling “Brud” on April 24th, 2024, at the age of 88 years.
Predeceased by his parents Elias Gosling, Pearl Butler; step-father Volta Butler; son-in-law Gary Flynn; and many beloved members of the Gosling and Baldwin families, and his furry friend, Molly.
Leaving to mourn his beloved wife of 68 years, Norma (nee Baldwin); children Larry (Beverley), Judy (Dennis), Alan (Debbie), and Earl (Lisa); sister Alma Slade (Bill – deceased); grand-children Neil (Shelley), Bradley, Julia (David), Mark (Ginny), Brandon, Stephen (Curtis), Andrew and Anna; great grand-children Aiden, Allie, Hailey, and Bella. As well, brothers-in-law Fred (Francis), Robert (Ruby), Bill (Marjorie), and James (Sue); sisters-in-law Flora (John), Muriel (Walt) and Rose. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Brud was born in Bonavista and moved to Dunville. He worked at the U.S. Naval Base in Argentia where he retired as the Assistant Fire Chief after 32 years. He volunteered at the Fire Department, as well as a member of the Lion’s Club in Dunville. He loved the outdoors, gardening, he was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed his moose hunting trips to the cabin with his sons.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you for the exceptional care from the staff at the Pleasantview Towers, 4 NE and the many friends he has made over the last two years.
Cremation has taken place. The family will be accepting visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, Freshwater Road, St. John’s. Visitation to take place on Sunday April 28 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A funeral service to take place at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday, April 29 at 2pm. The service will be live streamed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

I’m my 60 plus years of work and worldly travels I had hundreds of co workers and met thousands and thousands of people. I can honestly and proudly say that Brud was the nicest, most respected and gentlemanly man I ever had the pleasure of knowing . I always look forward to socializing with Brud and Norma at the base entertainment facility and the Dunville Lions Club. Both him and Norma instilled a sense of life values on their family that was unequal . I also had the pleasure of working with their son Alan during my tour of duty as fire chief at the US Naval Facility Argentia . It was a pleasure to have worked with both of them and I have very please memories of these times .Brud it was an honour and privilege to have served with you . Rest in eternal peace my friend..

Norma, Judy, Alan and all the Gisling families, we were so sorry to hear of Brud’s passing. As you know I worked side bt side with Brud in the Argentia Fure Dept for several years and he was a major help to me when Is started out there and many times after. We had many long conversations.
