Elsie Eileen Lacey (Ivey)

July 8, 1932 to January 4, 2023

Obituary

Elsie Lacey, at the age of 90, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on
Wednesday, January 4th, 2023.

Predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Henry (Harry) Lacey – December 2021; her
son, Dr. David Lacey – June 2021; sons-in-law David Bondurant, Patrick Lee and Francis
Dunne; parents Alfred and Caroline Ivey; siblings Mary, Marguerite, Florence, Evelyn,
Jean, Fred, Mervil, Alfred and Douglas.

Leaving to mourn with heavy hearts her children Linda Lee (Patrick – deceased); Elizabeth
Bondurant (David – deceased); Steve (Yvonne); Debbie (Rick); Christine (Terry); Glenn
(Glenda), Doug (Angela); and daughter-in-law Janine. Also leaving to mourn her 18
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.

As a child, Elsie lived in downtown St. John’s but treasured time spent at her mother’s
summer home in Manuels. Never one to shy away from the challenges life presented
her with, she constantly maintained a zest for life. She always had an open heart and
home as she lovingly cared for numerous children throughout the years.

Elsie’s greatest joy was being a “mom” to her eight children and ‘’nan” to her many
grandchildren and was happiest when the family gathered together to sing and dance. She
had a beautiful voice and often recounted how she sang on the radio at the age of 11. She
was the ultimate hostess. The teapot was always on, fresh tea buns on the table, memories
shared and quite often we left with a little something extra.

Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home at 329 Freshwater Rd. on Sunday,
January 8th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at
Carnell’s Chapel on Monday, January 9th at 2:00 pm. Inurnment to follow at Forest Road
Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Team Broken Earth for the
Dr. David Lacey Memorial Scholarship. Donations may be made at www.brokenearth.ca.

To Kieran and the Lacey family:

I’m so sorry to hear of Mrs. Lacey’s passing. I am a radiology resident with Kieran and was fortunate enough to be entertained with a few stories of Mrs. Lacey during the wee hours of the night earlier this fall while we were waiting for scans to come through while on call together. A very special lady indeed. Some of your vivaciousness has certainly passed on to Kieran and will live on in him and many of your other grandchildren…of this I have no doubt :).

Thinking of you all.

Hugs,
Melissa Walsh

To the Lacey Family:
So sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. She will be sadly missed by her loving family but so welcomed into eternal life by her loving husband Harry who adored her beyond words. I was just a young girl when Harry took Elsie to Torbay to introduce her to his Uncle Eddie, my dad. All I can remember is I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen off the screen! They married, had a wonderful family, and there is no happier man in heaven today than Harry to be reunited with Elsie, the love of his life. Deepest condolences to the Lacey family on the loss of their mother and grandmother.
