Everett Rideout

December 7, 1939 to July 7, 2023

Obituary

Promoted to glory on Friday, July 7, 2023, at the Agnes Pratt Nursing home, Everett Rideout, age 83 years.

Predeceased by his parents Adam and Evelyn Rideout (Grandy), wife Vera Rideout (Rowsell), son Bruce Rideout, brothers Melvin Rideout, Aubrey Rideout, and Clarence Rideout, sisters Florence Piercy and Olive Reid and many other close family members and in-laws.

Left to mourn, sons Boyd Rideout (Carol) and Barry Rideout (Vicky), daughter Yolanda Rideout (Eric), grandchildren Lori, Michelle, Yvonne, Melissa, and Lukas and 10 great grandchildren, sister Violet Burt, brothers Woodrow (Lillian) and Rayfield (Michelle) and many other family members, in-laws, and special friends.

Everett provided for his family as a Stationary Engineer, starting his career working for the mining company in Buchans, where he worked for almost 30 years, and after its closure continued in Daniel’s Harbour, Roddickton and eventually retired from NL Hydro in Holyrood. Everett was an active member of the Salvation Army for most of his life. If there was something that needed fixing or a lick of paint, or books that needed balancing, he was the quiet guy you could depend on to get the job done. Everett was a “jack of all trades”. He could often be found with a tool in his hand. While he was working on 2 or 3 projects, he always had a dozen more in the back of his mind to tackle next. He was known to take an item and improve its design to be better than it was in the beginning. His wooden puzzles and designs can still be found in many homes. He loved spending time with family and especially the children in the family. He was the quiet instigator of many practical jokes and always game for the next big laugh. He loved a rousing game of table tennis or badminton and was a great match for competitors half his age. He was proud that he learned to ride a motorcycle in his 50’s and continued to ride well into his 70’s. Vera was the true love of his life. They were married for 61 years, and he has missed her greatly in the last 9 months. The family takes much comfort in knowing they are reunited again.

We would like to thank the staff of the Agnes Pratt Home, especially the staff of Pratt Place for the care and support they provided to dad and mom while they resided there. Special thanks to Heather, Jennifer, Kim and Shirley who gave him special care after mom’s passing. Your care means more than we can express.

Memorial service for Everett will be held at Salvation Army Citadel at 106 Ashford Dr, Mount Pearl, Tuesday July 11 at 11am.

To Boyd, Barry, Yolanda and families
We are so saddened to receive word of your dad’s passing. We loved visiting your mom and dad over the years. He was always such a witty man with a brilliant mind. Our kids loved his games that he made and we all just loved being in his presence. When we visited him last summer he shed tears of joy as we sang: “O Boundless Salvation” and he knew every word. He has left us with many wonderful memories that we will cherish forever. Your mom was the joy of his life and his desire to be reunited with her and the God he loved and served has now become a reality for him. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Much love to you all. Uncle Ivan and Aunt Audrey xo

Sincere sympathy to Everett’s family on his passing. I remember him as a very nice young man, even tempered and always looking contented. The last time I saw him was when I attended Vera’s funeral and it was very obvious that he was going to miss her a lot. May your memories of him bring you happy moments from yesteryear and give you courage to travel on knowing that he is now at peace. Len joins me in this expression of sympathy. God bless you.

I’m sorry to hear about Ev’s passing.. I remember him, and of course Vera, very well. My condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Rideout’s passing .. much love and prayers to his family .. we have fond memories of many visits at moms and dads house when they lived in Roddickton .. such a mild, kind hearted man of God .. one of his kind moments, that he will ever be remembered for, is when he made a little red and white plane for our young son at the time .. we still have it .. God Bless you all ♥️🙏

To Boyd, Bruce, Yolanda and families:
I was very saddened to hear of your dad’s Promotion to Glory. He was a gentle man who always brought a smile to my face. Always had a good word and a hug. He will be greatly missed I’m sure. He was so proud of each of you and all his grandchildren. May God be your comfort and strength in these difficult days. He is now with your mom and his Saviour who he served faithfully. Well done good and faithful servant. Love to each of you. Aunt Sharon
