To John’s family. I was shocked and saddened by John’s passing. John was the toughest guy I knew from our days at Bishop Feild and onward, but he had the greatest heart and a witty sense of humour. I had many adventures with John, from camping in Terra Nova to trying to keep pace with him on our motorcycles. To his family and friends, I offer by condolences.

SO SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR PASSING OLD FRIEND ! YOU ALWAYS HAD A WAY TO MAKE ME LAUGH AND SMILE. CHEERS JOHN AND RIP !

Mrs. Lakin, I just found out about John’s passing. You have my deepest condolences to you and your family. John was a great friend of mine through our days at Feild. I am deeply sorry.

Our condolences , from me and my family. John, was a schoolmate of mine at Bishop Feild Collage, and we played hockey together on the school team. I have fond memories of us playing together. RIP John.

To Mrs. Lakin and Family – Whenever we were in John’s company it was a time., he had stories and lots of laughs. Passing on our deepest sympathies to all of you during this difficult time.

Mrs. Lakin, Greg and family;
John left this world as he did in life, on this own terms. We were long and dear friends. I had lots of interesting and fun adventures travelling all over St. John’s on the back of Johns’ motorcycle, meeting his friends, who in turn, became life long friends of mine. John came out West and treated my boys to their own “John adventures”. Keeping them in line as their pseudo drill sergeant, exploring our rural neighbourhood, teaching them skills from the school of hard knocks in a loving but comical fashion, but in a way only John could. No one else could get away with such foolishness!.
I will miss my dear old friend, but never forget the great times we shared and the fun we had.
I share in your loss and sorrow.

Dora, Greg & Family
Our condolences on the passing of John.

Whenever John invited you on an adventure you could count on two things: it was going to be enjoyable, and if things went sideways, he always had your back! I have only good memories and I’m happy to have called him a friend.

Dora & family.
My thoughts are with you during this time of great sorrow. I hope that the wonderful memories of your beloved son will bring you peace, strength, and comfort. May he rest in peace and soar with the angels.

Aunt Dora, Greg, Brenda and David
So sorry to hear of John’s passing.. I have lots of fond memories when we were younger and always looked forward to the hockey hand-me-downs as the seasons came and went. Another vivid memory was one May 24th when he and I went swimming at Welsh’s Field in Cavendish. John, first in, pretended the water was fine. Was I surprised when I went in! He always looked out for me like an older brother.
Sending our love,
Dave and Annette

My heart is broken.
I would periodically answer the phone to hear John’s distinctive voice telling me what was going on with him and who he had recently seen, and what they were up to. I especially loved the time we both brought my infant daughter to the Duke for a drink! Of course he scolded the people who were smoking nearby!
Rest In Peace old friend….

If you knew John you likely have a Tale. He was all in to whatever he chose to do. Lots of laughs and fond memories. RIP John.

So sorry to hear of John’s passing. I have many good memories of times spent with John both in St. John’s and the west coast. His dry sense of humour and his big heart have left a lasting impression with us. Sending our condolences.

Lakin Family,
Sorry to hear of John’s passing. The Lakin family were neighbours of our business on Merrymeeting Road-Chalkers Delicatessen. Mr. Lakin did all of the plumbing at “the shop” he was so very tall, a gentle giant. Later I met John as we were both Feildian boys and he was a good friend of my brother in laws. Rest easy, John.

Aunt Dora, Greg, Brenda and David,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad and difficult time. The times that John and I had together are memories that I will treasure with love and will hold in my heart forever. Even though John moved away, we always kept in contact and if he had to pass through Halifax on his travels, he always let me know so that we could meet up for a quick visit. John has gone before his time and will be missed by many. Sending love and hugs to all XOXO.
