We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, on November 21st, 2023, Gerald Lester King of Bauline at the age of 77 years.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Ambrose and Flossie King, brothers Clayton and Charlie King, sisters Florrie Penney and Shirley LeGrow.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 52 years Cynthia (nee Roberts), his son Darren (Giovanna) and daughter Denise (Carson) and the three grandchildren that he adored, Blake, Alandra and Sebastian. Also leaving to mourn many nieces, nephews and cousins on both the Roberts and King families.
From his 25 years as a devoted fireman, to his many years as a creative stone mason and incredible community volunteer, Gerald touched many lives and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He spent his life serving others and was known as a man who would do anything for anyone. A real prankster in the firehall and always the requested cook on shift, his legacy in the St.John’s Regional Fire department will outlive him for many years to come. His other passion was his love of the outdoors – he was happiest in the woods and on the water. In recent years as he struggled with COPD, he took great comfort in visits with his friends and family and time with his kids, precious grandchildren and the wife he adored who took amazing care of him every single day.
Visitation to be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road from 2-9pm on Friday November 24, 2023. Funeral will be held at the Bauline United Church at 2: 00 p.m. on November 25th, 2023, with interment to follow at the Bauline Cemetery on Pouch Cove Line.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Bauline United Church or to a charity of one’s choice.

It was with a heavy heart that I received the news of Gerald’s passing. The last time I sat with Gerald:: myself, Sally, Winnie and Desmond Whalen sat around the table singing numerous songs and having a time.
I will miss my cousin and always recall fondly how Gerald loved to be around family and carried a smile for those that didn’t have one..

The obituary says it all. Gerald and Cynthia were great and loyal friends to Colleen and I for more than a couple of decades we shared the occasional glass of rum and Gerald’s fresh fish stew on Regatta Day and during New Year.
