Gertrude  Simms

July 19, 1933 to November 21, 2018

It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gertrude Simms (nee Carter) on November 21, 2018 at 85 years of age.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend.  Gertie is predeceased by her parents Harry and Annie (nee Piercey) Carter, brother William Carter (Annie) and sister Elsie Carter.  She will be forever missed by her loving husband of 59 years, Frank; children Harry (Ann Marie Lane), Valerie (Daniel Fudge), and Franklin (Kelli); special nieces Elsie Rose and Cavell Reardon; and a large number of extended family.  She was lovingly devoted to her four grandchildren Sarah (Christian), Benjamin, Adam and Andrew.  A special thank you to her family at the Chancellor Park long term care facility for their loving care, as well as the dedicated nursing staff on 4 North A at the Health Science Center in St. John’s.  As per her wishes cremation has already taken place. A service will be held from The Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 26 at 2 p.m. Due to her love of cats, we request in lieu of flowers that donations be made in her name to the St. John’s S.P.C.A.  She will always be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who will live on in our hearts forever.

Mr. Simms, Harry, Valerie, Franklin,

At a time like this, there is really nothing anyone can say that will ease the pain of losing someone so precious. Mrs. Simms truly was a gift to so many. When we were younger and hanging around at your place, I thought of her as my second mom. We all did. I will never forget her kind and gentle spirit and that smile of hers. She was an angel on Earth. Take comfort in knowing that her light will always shine brightly in our hearts and our memories.
