Glenn John Sooley

November 25, 1957 to August 19, 2022

Obituary

Passed away peacefully on August 19, 2022, Glenn John Sooley, retired fireman with the St. John’s Central Fire Station.

Predeceased by his parents Cecil and Ethel Sooley, his sister Janet Sooley Gajic and sister-in-law Pat Sooley.

Leaving to mourn his sisters Sandra and Judy (Ron); brothers Cecil (Genny) and Bill; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Glenn was well loved by those who knew him most, and his family will miss him dearly.

We would like to thank Provincial Home Care in CBS for their support over the last years and for giving us the gift of Brandi Payne as his home support worker.  Brandi had a gift of caring for Glenn that made him think of her as his little sister.  She was his tech support, and caregiver, and best of all he felt safe with her.

We also want to thank Dr. John McNicholas, ophthalmologist, who worked so hard over many years to keep the sight in Glenn’s eyes.  Thank you also to Dr. Sean Murphy, nephrologist, for his excellent care over many years.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to the amazing doctors and nursing staff of the HSC Emergency unit – your kindness and compassionate care will always be remembered.

A service for family and friends will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday, September 5 at 1pm.  Inurnment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road.

Our deepest condolences to the Sooley family on Glen’s passing…May he Rest In Peace.

My deepest condolences and heart felt prayers to my dear Uncle Glenn’s surviving siblings, nieces and nephews. I wish I could be there in person to mourn with my Aunt Sandy, Uncle Cec, Aunt Ginny, Uncle Bill and my Mother Judy. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He was always friendly to me when our family visited and excited to show us the latest technology. The first time I saw a big desktop computer was Uncle Glenn’s, and the first VCR. He always seamed to have the latest thing and as a kid I was amazed at his knowledge of computers. I remember how much he loved their dog Angel and how much he doted on her. Glenn will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends, as he was taken too soon. My love, thoughts and prayers to everyone gathered in celebration of Glenn’s life.

So sad to hear of Glenn’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most difficult time. Rest easy Glenn

I am saddened by the passing of my Uncle Glenn. My love, prayers, and condolences to Aunt Sandy, Uncle Cecil, Aunt Ginny, my mother Judy, and Uncle Bill, and all my Sooley cousins. My favorite memories of Uncle Glenn were the times he brought us to the movies when we visited St.John’s as kids, letting us play his Atari/coleco video games, and giving me a chess’s fish-n-chips vinegar bottle (I have it on my counter now). We admired his love of tech & computers, and he had a sarcastic sense of humor we appreciated.
I hope good memories of Glenn provide some comfort to everyone in this sad time.
Rest in peace, Glenn.
Your niece, Katie

I’m so sorry to hear of Glenn’s passing. We worked together for many years in the department .He was one of the good ones. God speed, my friend.

To the Sooley family I am deeply sorry to hear the passing of Glenn. I remember playing softball with Glenn in our backyard— We were the oldest players and always hit the ball over the fence ,the problem was no one wanted to retrieve it.— lol. .One thing I remember up at the 2nd mile post was when Glenn and myself would go berry picking and Glenn wouldn’t bring anything to put his berries in— I found that strange— After an hour or so we’ d meet up and I’d have my bowl full and Glenn wouldn’t have a berry but what a purple face he had— now I knew why he never needed a bowl. R.I.P. my friend until we meet again.
