Passed peacefully away after a short illness, Glenn William Abbott, age 66, our devoted brother, uncle & friend in the presence of his brother, Dean. Predeceased by his beloved parents, Shirley and Anderson (Andy). Leaving to mourn and to celebrate a lifetime of memories are his cherished brothers, Dean (Sherry), Darren (Kathy); his sisters, Marilyn (Randy), Dana (Gerard); nephews, Kent (Stephanie), Mark (Chris) and Noah; nieces, Cassandra Jane (Chris), Carissa (Sam), Chelsea and Hayley; special aunts and uncles- Aunt Marion, Uncle Warren and Aunt Sophie (Uncle Josie-deceased); a multitude of cousins, and many friends.

Glenn was born in Bonavista, the first of 5 children. He was then raised in St. John’s.  Throughout his life, his passion was music, sharing his vast musical knowledge and abilities (including bass guitar and vocals) with others – even recording an album. Although he traveled across the country from coast to coast to coast, his home was always in Newfoundland, including the time he spent at Memorial University (especially the Breezeway). Glenn lived his life by his own rules. He was an avid reader and intelligent writer possessing an uncanny ability with words, ready to offer an opinion on current affairs and politics with anyone willing to engage. Known as a private, humorous, and kind man, Glenn placed great value on the little things and kept life simple wherever he could. His legacy of connection through music will live on through all of his nieces and nephews that share his passion. Gratitude is extended to the staff of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for the exceptional care and support during the last days of his life, especially Dr. Ashley Power, Dr. Mitch Chaulk, Dr. Jared Pritchard and 7 West nursing staff.

Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday, November 30th from 2-3:30 pm followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 3:30 pm.  Burial service to be held at a later date.  The funeral service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person with the link available above.

Donations in Glenn’s memory may be made to Gower Street United Church.

I am so sorry to hear about Glenn’s passing. Glen and I go way back to the 1970’s, playing in various bands throughout our friendship. Glenn was a true friend and was always willing to lend a hand any time I asked. We shared a love of music and laughter throughout our friendship. I visited him whenever I was home in St; John’s. The world has lost a good hearted man and I have lost a true friend. I will miss him always.

Had the pleasure of playing with Glenn in several bands over the years! He was a great bass player!!

We are so sorry to hear about Glenn’s passing.. Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.

Dana, we at the GCB are thinking of you and your family as you go through yet another loss. Our deepest condolences to you all.

Dana, Gerard and family, my deepest condolences. Sorry for your loss. Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.

Glenn had a heart of gold, he was very thoughtful. And would give my girls gifts for Christmas that were very well thought out . He was in my life for over 30 years, spent many days picking up Glenn in the morning to do work for Dean and I, then bringing him home in the evening with many care packages, he was so grateful for anything you did for him, we had lots of great chats, he was very intelligent. And wise on most topics. I know Dean will miss him dearly, my deepest condolences to all the family on the loss of a wonderful brother, brother in law and uncle. Music was very important to Glenn, it was in his soul from a young age, he loved family gatherings where his nieces and nephews would play and sing for him! REST EASY GLENN. You are now safely in the arms of your beautiful mom, she absolutely adored you💕
