Obituary

Passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 26, 2023 at the age of 84 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital.  Predeceased by his wife Hilda Bursey (nee Barnes), parents Walter and Elsie Mae Bursey, sisters Maxine Tucker (Ignatius), and Joan Burry (Red).

Left heartbroken but with loving and fond memories his children Michele Walsh (Mike), John Bursey (Susan), Scott Bursey (Denika); beloved grandchildren Ashley, Claire, Laura, Braidon, Brody, and Piper.  He will also be missed by his sisters Gloria Efford (Bob), Pam Squires (Albert), and members of the Barnes family and friends.  He treasured time spent with his cat Dilly, who kept him company for the past 8 years.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff of 7 East St. Clare’s for their excellent care of John, and compassion showed to the family.  

The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Wednesday, March 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, March 30 from 3-7 p.m.  Funeral service will be held from the Parish of St. John the Evangelist, Topsail, on Friday, March 31 at 10 a.m.  John will be laid to rest in the church cemetery with his wife Hilda.

Flowers accepted, or donations in John’s memory may be made to the War Amps or a charity of one’s choice.
