When you are Mayor of a town you often hear of many names of people and pioneers. Sometimes you never get the chance to meet these people or have a relationship with them..but you know them.
Ed was one of these people. I didn’t have to meet him or know him to feel his presence in the community or likewise feel the sadness of his loss.
Ed was a pioneer of this community and played an intricate role of launching many of the heritage projects of this community. His name is on walls and his memory echoes through out the community in our hearts.
He will be forever remembered and forever be missed.
Wayne Button

To the Montague family
Just finished reading Ed’s obituary and it brought back many fond memories from 60 years ago when we were young undergrads at Memorial college . We met early on in our caree at MUN and for three years we were as close as two fellows could be . I lost track of Ed once I went away to Tech and wondered over
the years how he was making out . Heard that he was in Labrador working but that was about the extent of my knowledge of him after his university career .Sorry to hear of his passing and sorry that we were unable to reconnect following the good times at MUN .
My thoughts are with you all .
To Joyce, Robyn and family, our heartfelt condolences to you on the passing of your husband and father. We only met Ed for a short time when we were in the hospital, but the love and support you showed to your family and us was immeasurable. Joyce, Edmund Jr. Robyn, Sean and family, we are deeply sorry for your loss, I always liked your dad. I have to admit I always tried to be around (as the kid next door) when he would come home from a trip because I knew he would have Arctic char or caribou meat or both. He always made me smile when he’d say to Sean and I what are you two brats up to? Then ask if we were hungry. I wish I could be there to bring this message in person but on behalf of my family we remember Ed in our prayers and offer our deepest sympathies to you.

Joyce & Family,
It was an honour to have known Ed over the years & to have spent time with you both here in St. John’s & in Labrador. His knowledge & love of Labrador is unequaled. We loved his kindness, his spark, his wit & his humour. The pieces of labradorite he gifted us a few years ago have always sat on our shelf, now they take on a more special meaning. Wishing you all the very best & sending our love.
