Henry (Harry) Stephen Lacey

December 26, 1930 to December 6, 2021

Obituary

Henry (Harry) Lacey passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday,
December 6th, 2021 (Saint Nicholas Day), three weeks shy of his 91st birthday. The
significance of this date is very fitting considering how much Harry loved Christmas and
his children.
Predeceased by his son, Dr. David Lacey – June 2021; his sons-in-law David Bondurant
and Patrick Lee; brother Patrick Lacey and sister Mercedes Lacey.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 71 years, Elsie (Ivey); children Linda Lee (Patrick –
deceased); Elizabeth Bondurant (David – deceased); Steve (Yvonne); Debbie (Rick);
Christine (Terry); Glenn (Glenda), Doug (Angela); and daughter-in-law Janine. Also leaving
to mourn his 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; special
cousin Kay Sorensen; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Above all, family was dad’s greatest love.
Harry’s joys in life were having a game of cards with “the boys”; watching the races at the
Regatta; and decorating his Christmas tree to perfection. In years past, Harry loved the
outdoors; trouting, playing “washers” at the cabin, and picking berries and dandelions. Most
of all, Harry dearly loved his wife, who he affectionately referred to as “Mom” to all of their
eight children.
Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home at 329 Freshwater Rd. on Sunday,
December 12th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held at
St. Teresa’s on Mundy Pond Road on Monday, December 13th at 2:00 pm. Inurnment to
follow at Forest Road Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Team Broken Earth for the
Dr. David Lacey Memorial Scholarship. Donations may be made at http://www.brokenearth.ca.

What do I say I’m heartbroken my dear pop is gone one of the greatest men I had the pleasure to call my pop or poppy, or what I considered a father figure, I have so many precious memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, I remember our walks when I was a child we take (blarney) pop’s dog down to Feilding gardens and the talks we use to have what I learned and the stories I cherished so much to making sure I saw my pop on his birthday just to see him, I looked at my pop and thought he was superman I had the privilege to spend a lot of time with my pop whether it was off cutting wood with my pop and having boil up’s to sitting in pop’s laps and he letting me steer the old grey and wine chev truck around Dominion parking lot when Nan was in getting a few thing’s and pop saying don’t tell your Nanny lol some good ol times, to my pop who always been there at the Airport when I took off to the mainland for work when I was a kid with only my clothes and he would have a $100 bill wrapped around a package of bubblelicious and he shake my hand and he say take that and no questions poppy loves ya ,
I tell ya I never forgot my pop and we never saw much of one another due to certain circumstances but I did make my phone calls to him once in a while and sometimes on his birthday early in the morning that nobody probably ever have known and pop would always say to me do what you think is best and watch your bobber and I love you poppy’s boy he always say.
I saw my pop one day just before I went away for good in Sobey’s parking lot and I looked at my pop who was a lot slower going to his vehicle from across the parking lot sitting in my car and I cried, I wanted to remember my pop the man I looked at like superman or like we use to say, Hurry Harry my pop was the most warm-hearted loving pop you could ever have and he will be sadly missed, I love you pop with all my heart and hope you rest in peace. xoxoxo.

Love Always & Forever
Christopher ( Poppy’s Boy)

May treasured memories fill your mind, warm you heart and lead you through this Christmas Season, your Dad is always with you.

To the Lacey Family:
Harry was a man who loved life and lived it well. He was born in Torbay, the son of Sandy and Katie Fleming Lacey and spent a few of his young years there. After his mother’s passing at an early age, the family moved to St.John’s and Harry became a “Townie”, always maintaining a “soft spot” for his roots. He will now be reunited with all his family who went before him, including his Uncle Eddie and his grandmother who he affectionately called “Ma”. Rest in peace with the Angels, Harry.
