Passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024, at the age of 101. Predeceased by her husband, Noble
(“Speed”) Baird, in 2013.

Left with loving memories are her daughter Jean (Gerard Hayes), son David (Jeannie), grandchildren
Brian Hayes, Glen Hayes (Jenelle), Lindsey Quednau (Doug), Ian Baird (Elise), and special
great-granddaughter Kaleigh Mae Quednau, as well as an extended circle of nieces, nephews, and
friends.

Mom was a woman who loved people and had a great sense of family, community, and faith. Wherever
she and Dad lived over the years — be it Gander, New York, Florida, or Salvage — Mom enjoyed making
new friends and joining community organizations. She always found a church to be a part of, singing in
choirs or playing the keyboard. She played at the Anglican services at Kenny’s Pond Retirement
Residence right up until December.

The family would like to thank the staff and management of Kenny’s Pond, especially this past month
when her fall required medical care . Your kindness and compassion were very much appreciated.

A celebration of Mom’s life will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
Visitation from 12-2 pm, Funeral Service to follow in Carnell’s Chapel at 2 pm.

Mom will be laid to rest beside Dad this summer in her beloved Salvage at a date to be announced

My sincere condolences to all of Ida’s family. I met Ida in 2019 when my Dad, Gerald Skanes, moved to Kenny’s Pond. She became a great friend to him and helped him through a difficult time. Ida was such a sweet lady and I continued to visit with her after my Dad’s passing in March 2022.. She was an inspiration and her kindness will never be forgotten. I am sure she is dancing with the angels. God Speed, Ida.

Jean, Gerard and family, I was saddened to read of your Mom’s passing. She was truly blessed with such a long life. The mother is the heart of the family and regardless of age it always so sad to say goodbye. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Jean, David and families:
Please know my heart is sad on hearing the news of Aunt Ida’s passing – as kids she was always a presence in our lives, whether hearing her voice when calling Mom to chat, seeing her and your Dad on their many visits to Newfoundland as well as the anticipation of her wonderful gifts at Christmas time. After moving away to Alberta, it was always a pleasure to send her cards for those special occasions when I wasn’t close enough to give her a hug in celebration. I’m so glad that my brother Bruce will be there to support each of you as you say goodbye to a wonderful lady. Hold your memories dear, as I will, and I know those memories will help you through the coming days. Each of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Sincere condolences.

Marie (Keating)
