Obituary
It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with ALS.
Predeceased by his parents Leighton (2005) and Margaret (1992), brother Robert Bursey “Bobby” (2015) and in-law’s Gerald (1991) and Isabel (1993) Hogan.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife Rowena, sons John (Maddie), and Michael, daughter Andrea Green (Craig), sister Barbara Ledain (Joel), and brother Glenn (Karen), as well as other family members and friends, especially Randy Thorne and Selby Forward for their constant visits and phone calls.
The family would like to thank Dr. Goodridge, Dr. Fardy, the team at the Miller Center, and Health and Community Services for their continued support since 2021.
At his request cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Friday, August 11 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, August 12 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Society, or a charity of one’s choice.

Rowena, I am so sorry to learn of John passing and am sorry I didn’t know sooner to drop by to share my condolences with you. ALS is such an unforgiving illness and I can on imagine your journey with John. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Hoping to see you again soon at swimming. I hope you are still going. You have known this day was coming for some time now and John is at rest. You and your family have had a difficult couple of years and you have all cared for John through his illness, you especially, John was lucky to have you.
