Obituary

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Kerry in St. John’s NL with her beloved husband, Darrell Hopkins, at her side.

Born in Ottawa, Kerry graduated from Carleton University and pursued a career as a Human Resources specialist.  Kerry’s spirit and positive outlook on life was well known to friends and family alike.

Kerry experienced many new adventures with Darrell and their beloved dog Sadie, and she developed deep and meaningful relationships with her new family and friends in St. John’s.  She also spent whatever time she could in Ottawa since it was important to her that she continuously nurture those relationships too.  Wherever Kerry happened to be, she gave selflessly of her time; she had a rare ability to light up any room she entered and will be missed more than words can express.

Kerry was pre-deceased by her sister Joanne and her mother-in-law Eileen.  She will be deeply missed by her husband Darrell (her best girl, Sadie) her mother Joan, her father-in-law James; her sisters Kathy (Iain) and Wendy (Simon), her brother Blake (Margaret); her brothers-in-law Gerry and Dean (Penny), her sister-in-law Michelle (Anthony); her nieces Brittany (Fearghal), Laura (Rob and Declan), Tess, and Jordan; her nephews Christopher (Courtney and Maverick), Coady, Cameron, and Jack.

The family wish to extend sincere thanks to the staff of the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s NL for the care and kindness given to Kerry.  Selfless to the very end, our beautiful hero ensured that the lives of others were saved through the donation of her organs — God bless you Kerry.

A celebration of Kerry’s life will be held in St. John’s and Ottawa at a later date.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada www.heartandstroke.ca

To Kerry’s family and friends,

I was blessed to know Kerry while she worked at Bank of America/MBNA Canada for many years. She was an amazing colleague who I was blessed to call friend.
She had a smile that could brighten up a room, a special kindness and a soft heart like no other.

I am shocked to read of her passing and my deepest sympathies go out to each of so many who met and had the chance to know her.

An angel has received her heavenly wings much to soon.
Until we meet again at heavens door my friend.

Gutted, I worked with Kerry at MBNA for many years and remember two things, her hair and her bubbly personality. She was amazing to work with and you could not help but love her. Speaking of love, I remember well when she found love, decided to pack up her life in Ottawa and move out east. She was the happiest I’d ever seen her. She’ll be missed, so sorry for your loss.

Darrell,
We were so saddened and shocked to hear of Kerry’s passing. Although we didn’t know her well, she left us with such a warm impression. She had a bright smile and sweetness that was felt as soon as we met her. We are thinking of you and her family.
