It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Lawrence (Larry) Michael Power, of the Mundy Pond area of St. John’s, on October 23rd, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. He was 72 years old.
Larry is predeceased by his Mother, Madeline Power and Father, Michael Power, his older brother Ron Power of Mississauga, and three infant siblings.
Larry leaves to mourn, his wife of 51 years, Marie Power (nee Martin), two sons, Steven (Danielle) and David (Amanda), daughter Angela McLoughlin (Gerry), and wonderful grandchildren who were a joy in his life, Alicia, Brandon, Tyson, Breanna, Dylan, and great grandchildren Jonathan and Nathanial. Larry also leaves sisters Jean (John), Madeline (Stanley), and brothers Michael (Sonia), Edward (Linda), Jim, Rick, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, and larger circle of family and friends.
A kind man who loved a cup of tea and working on cars in his backyard garage, Larry will be sadly missed and always remembered by everyone who knew him. Larry was a dedicated firefighter of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) for over 30 years, serving his community with great pride and perseverance. He retired as a respected Captain in 2011 and often remarked on how proud he was of his fellow firefighters.
Cremation has taken place. Please join us on Thursday, October 26th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm for visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home, and for the Funeral Service at 2pm on Friday, October 27th at the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Rd.

So saddened to hear of Larry’s passing. We worked together on shift and always found him to be a genuine person. He was always quite proud of his profession. Thoughts and prayers are with his family at this most difficult time.
I always enjoyed my times in the garage with Uncle Larry when I was younger and I’m always proud to tell my firefighter friends that my Uncle was a career firefighter Captain. We will miss him, so sorry to hear of his passing.
