Leanne Marie Avery

June 1, 1970 to September 24, 2023

Obituary

It is with great sadness that Leanne Marie Avery has passed away at 53 years old. Leanne was comfortable and lay to rest peacefully at her home with her family by her side.

Leanne has been fighting for the last number of years, starting in 2019, when she became quite ill, with a 5% chance of survival. Since then she has fought and worked tirelessly to become better until recently was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August. Leanne filled every room she entered with her beauty, personality and her contagious glowing smile. Despite everything happening in her life, she always had a smile on her face and worried and cared about those who surrounded her before herself. Those who were fortunate to know her, heard stories or just crossed paths, knew the lasting impression she made on each and every person embodying what it meant to live, care, love and so much more. But Leanne’s greatest accomplishment were her children, Emily and Matt. She loved them more than words could describe, they’re the reason she pushed on so she could continue to raise, cherish and love them always.

Though Leanne is no longer with us, her stories, attributes and outlook on life will continue to live on through her companions, family and friends. Leanne is survived by her children (daughter) Emily McKim (Alan), (son) Matthew McKim (Leah), (partner) John Walsh and his daughter Ella, (parents) Roland and Beverly Avery, (siblings) Brent Avery (Lori) and Jane Davis (Brad), (nieces) Lauren, Beth, Sarah and Amanda, and (nephew) Nolan. Additionally, her former spouse and father to their children Andrew McKim. As well, leaving to mourn are her co-workers and work family at Regatta Dental.

Thank you to the medical professionals including Dr. Mike Hogan and the community health nurses that always embraced Leanne’s determination. We would like to especially thank Dr. Paula Walsh, Trudy Smith, April Adams and the whole 4NB nursing team.

Leanne will be laid to rest at Carnell’s Funeral Home, with a wake date of Wednesday, September 27th from 2pm-9pm and Thursday morning, September 28th from 9am-11am. A celebration of life will take place at Admirals Green, Pippy Park Golf Course on Thursday, September 28th from 6pm-10pm.

Leanne taught us all so many invaluable lessons that will stick with many for as long as they live. Her selflessness, attitude, determination, toughness and her ability to love was unmatched. The world is a better place having had her in it.

A horrible shock… knowing Leanne since grade school, I recall her as a so very kind person full of joy and positive energy. I don’t know you but I send her entire family the biggest of hugs.

Reading through these messages of condolences portrays the loving, caring human that Leanne Avery was. I remember the early days at Xtreme hockey where the hockey parents would bond in between scrimmages, camps and power skating. It was there that Leanne showed us her true caring self. She has left a lasting impression. Thinking of friends and families of Leanne.

I was so saddened to hear the news today of Leanne’s passing, and also of her struggle in recent years. She was a bright light. I became a friend of Leanne’s in Junior High and we did have many fun times together. Although life took us in different directions and we lost touch, when I saw her at Costco a few years ago, she lit up, face like a shining star. What a beautiful energy she had. Sending strength to all her friends and family who love her dearly and still wish her here, although surely not suffering. Hoping Leanne’s light continues to find ways to reach you from where her bright spirit is now.

Emily, Matt, John, and Ella, Andrew, Mr. and Mrs. Avery, Jane, Brad, Brent, and Lori-
Leanne was a childhood friend as you know, my dental hygienist and my neighbour. She always stopped by when walking the dogs or waved from the street- we often chatted and laughed about this and that and funny enough, we discovered each other at Winners more often than not. She was one of the most positive, loving, empowered, and strongest women I ever met. She was friendly with EVERYONE and she made everyone feel so welcomed and loved. She will never be forgotten. When it’s said, that we could all learn a thing or two from Leanne, this is so very accurate- if we all would live as she lived, the world would be such a happier calmer place. Pay it forward in her memory. RIP my beautiful friend. Till we meet again. ox

Sending sincere condolences to Brent , Jane and all the family, on the loss of such a beautiful person. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time ,keep those precious and wonderful memories close .May she RIP .
