Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lloyd Ernest Clarke in his 86th year.

Predeceased by his parents, Josiah and Susie Clarke and brother Edward.  Leaving to mourn with broken hearts are his loving and devoted wife Jane of 65 years; his daughter Wanda (Art); his sons Wade (Nancy) and Lloyd (Hamamie); four (4) precious grandchildren that he adored, Megan (Chris), Matthew (Meghan), Briella and Samuel; also, sister Betty Greeley (Sid). As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lloyd was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, and friend. During the 60’s and 70’s he enjoyed spending his spare time taking the family on road trips, camping, and trout fishing. In the 80s, he built a cabin on the Salmonier Line where he loved to entertain family and friends, spending many hours at his favorite fishing spots. Megan and Matthew loved coming to the cabin to spend a week’s holidays every Summer, which he treasured.

Lloyd was a Spiritual man and devoted 50 years of his life to St. Thomas’ Church, being of service whenever he was needed. He enjoyed taking his young family to church and Sunday school every Sunday.  He had a magnificent singing voice and often took out the accordion to play and sing “The Lord’s My Shepherd”.

Lloyd had a contagious smile and as well as loving his family, he loved people, and could make lifelong friends in an instant.  He worked from age 16 until he was 65 and was respected and admired by co-workers and clients.  After retirement, he spent many vacations in the sunny south, soaking up the sunshine, which he truly enjoyed!

His family would like to thank all the many friends for their kindness since Lloyd’s passing, the staff of HSC 5 South B, and Glenbrook Lodge for their excellent care and kindness during the last months of his life.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at St. Thomas’ Church, 8 Military Road, St. John’s, NL

Donations would be appreciated to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, Cancer Care Foundation, The War Amps, or a charity of one’s choice.

You left us beautiful memories.

Your love is still our guide.

Our family chain is broken and

nothing seems the same, but as God

calls us one by one, the chain will link again

To Lloyd’s Family: Just learned of his passing. I know you don’t know me; but I have known your dad/husband for many years; I bought a compressor from him many, many years ago and knew him from Hickman motors, visiting the garage. He was certainly a kind and well respected gentleman; wanted to send my condolence to the family and may he rest in peace.
