It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our mother at her home in St. John’s.  Margaret Ann (Peggy) Daly, aged 65 years.

Our Mom was a proud nurse and educator, and dedicated herself to teaching at the MUN School of Nursing for more than 20 years.  She was taken from us too soon and will be dearly missed by those she loved and who loved her in turn.

Predeceased by her parents, Margaret Daly and Dr. Nicholas Daly; former husband, Dr. Douglas Torraville; and friend for more than 60 years, Dr. Maureen Lawton.

Leaving to mourn the loss and honour her memory are her children, Aidan, Patrick, and Margaret; siblings, Nora (Rodney), Paddy, Eithne, and Mary; and treasured friends, Lynn Power, Doreen Cahill, Doreen Neville, and Trish Greene.

Her family and friends will gather to share memories and comfort one another at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Monday, October 10 from 12-2 and 4-7 p.m.  The funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, October 11 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Forest Road Anglican Cemetery.

Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in Peggy’s name may be made to the MS Society of Canada, the Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Mental Health Association.

I just learned of Peggy’s passing today. Peggy was an incredible person, and a huge support to our family when we lost our Mother. She was bright, funny, and compassionate. My deepest condolences to her sons Aiden and Patrick, and her daughter Margaret; as well as the rest of her family. She will be greatly missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Peggy’s passing. And even more sorry that I hadn’t made it to funeral home to have met her three children. Peggy and I were in the MUN BN program and worked together at the SON. She was a lovely person and full of so much energy. We had many chats and laughs together. She will be greatly missed.

I was very sorry to hear of. Peggy’s death. I also have fond memories of working with her while I was at the HS library. She was a warm and delightful woman, one of my favorite faculty. My sympathies to her loved ones.

Sending condolences on your great loss. I worked in the School of Nursing for a short time but in that time I always felt appreciated and welcome by Peggy. She was always funny and I remember her fondly.

So sorry to hear of your sister’s passing. Sending my sincere condolences to you and your family. Take good care.

I was so sad to hear the news of Peggy’s passing. I am a nurse practitioner and Peggy was one of my favorite educators when I attended MUN school of Nursing. She was dedicated to educating her students but most of all I remember how down to earth and personable she was. She always had an understanding way about her and was very in tune with the issues and realities of life.
My deepest condolences to Peggy’s family and friends. Rest Easy Peggy.

To Peggy’s siblings and children. I was very shocked to hear the news of her passing, having just seen her when I was back home in NL in late June. I can’t believe that was/will be our final visit. We were in the same class at Pius X and together at HHM, shared mutual friends and numerous life stories over the years. Although I’ve been off the rock for decades, any time I ran into her, Peggy just never changed. She always had a laugh and a tall tale. She will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Maureen FitzGerald (Fitz)

To Peggy’s children, siblings and friends,
So saddened to hear of Peggy’s sudden passing. A huge void has been left in your lives but may happy memories she has gifted you all, bring comfort. Her enthusiasm, drive and caring nature will be remembered by many.
Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

i am both shocked and saddened by the news of Peggy’s passing. We had lots of good times while living as neighbours on Osborne Street. Dave and I often spoke of her dynamic personality. The first Christmas after we had moved to Harbour Grace, Peggy did not think she and her kids would receive annual gingerbread house. She actually bought a prefab from Dominion. The full bodied delight she displayed as Dave drove up with the gingerbread house in tow that year, Peggy and I kept in youch over the years. I will certainly miss her. take care to her kids

I have so many fond memories of Peggy from kindergarten through the years- its so hard to believe she is gone.. i spent yesterday searching through photos that were reminders of the good times- iat Pius X, in Quebec( we were roomates) , at various birthday celebrations and retirements over the years. I lost touch with her in the last few years, but was so grateful when she came to my retirement party in 2018- with a big smile and best wishes. She had a beautiful singing voice, keen intellect and loved her children above all. May she rest in peace and my sincere condolences to all her family at this difficult time

To Maggie and family
Deeply saddened to hear of your mother’s passing.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

My heart sunk when I read the message about your mom. Peggy and I shared many laughs and special moments over the years not only when we worked together but on the phone since we moved away. I will miss her a lot. I am so sorry.

Paddy, Aiden, and Maggie

To Peggy’s family and friends,
I was very saddened to hear of Peggy’s untimely passing. She was a a great colleague, an engaged teacher and a passionate researcher at MUN’s School of Nursing. She was also deeply attached to her family. My sincere condolences.

To all of Peggy’s family and friends. It is with a great feeling of sadness that I learned of Peggy’s death. Peggy was one of my graduate students, a valued colleague and a loyal friend. She had a brilliant mind, a wonderful sense of humour, and a great dramatic flair. She cared deeply about her family, friends, and as a teacher, about her students. She will be greatly missed by many.

I remember the moment I met Peggy, when she came out to size up the teenager who had offered to help with a chore on his first visit to the house. She was a force. Through good times and bad she was spirited, and sharp with her tongue. Some truths that needed to be heard often landed.
Paddy, and family, my thoughts are with you.

To Mary, Peggy’s children and all of the Daly family,

My heartfelt condolences to all of you. It was only a couple of months ago that I spoke to Peggy, just like old times. May she rest in peace.
