Obituary
Passed peacefully away on December 11, 2022, Margaret “Peggy” Kathleen Reid (née Grant), aged 81, of St. John’s. Predeceased by her parents Dr. Arthur Roy Grant and Winnifred (MacLellan) Grant, and brother Roy “Sonny” Grant.
Left to mourn her loving husband and travelling companion of 51 years, Ernie, daughters Ellen Beth (Mark) and Charlotte, son Andrew (Andrea) and granddaughters Joni and Lexi. Also leaving to mourn her sister Patricia “Patty” Fowler (predeceased by Frank) of St. John’s, brothers Dr. Kenneth Grant (Heather) of Charlottetown, and Thomas Grant (Laura) of Sainte-Agathe, QC, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins across Canada.
Born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Peggy held various teaching positions in Summerside, Montreal, and St. John’s until retiring to raise her family. Peggy became a prominent member of the St. John’s Choir and the church choirs of St. Pius X and the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Passionate for music since her childhood, she instilled in her children and students a similar love, encouraging their lessons and Kiwanis festival performances. With her sister, Peggy led the residents of Kenny’s Pond Retirement Community in regular sing-a-longs. Peggy was proud of her Scottish heritage, and throughout her life the Grant clan motto “Stand Fast” gave her inspiration and strength.
Remembered fondly by a wide circle of friends, visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday, December 14 from 2-4 p.m. and Thursday, December 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Friday, December 16 at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peggy’s name may be made to Emmaus House or The Gathering Place, St. John’s.

I watched Peggy’s Mass of Christian Burial and was touched by a beautiful and fitting liturgy for a woman who was loved so much and who gave so much to her family, her profession, her community and the Pius X and Basilica parishes. My prayers and love as you grieve her loss.
