It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Marlene Maynard (nee Offrey}, 78. Marlene passed Jul 26, 2022 surrounded by her beloved daughters Amanda, Colleen and Monique.

Marlene put up a 7 month fight with stomach cancer prior to falling into a deep sleep. As in life, her heart led until the last breath. Despite immense pain and suffering she greeted every nurse, doctor, caregiver and orderly with a huge smile and Thank You – Hugs and air kisses.

She passed knowing she was surrounded by unconditional love and gratitude. Every choice she made in life was to provide for a great life for her daughters, it often meant great sacrifices for her. The hole she leaves behind cannot be measured.

We are grateful for the medical teams at St. Clare’s and HSC, that worked with her to prolong her life and bring her as much comfort as possible. With special thanks to her family Dr. Allison Drover and Dr Janelle Taylor for their compassion.

We are especially grateful to have been allowed to bring in her beloved Happy (dog) to visit prior to her passing. He was the first dog to steal her heart and take away her fear of at least one dog:)

She is also missed by Sally the Cat who demanded butter every morning upon waking and Callie the newest edition of the family who loved to sleep with her during her illness.

Marlene was predeceased by her husband, Ed, parents Nellie and Reginal Offrey, brothers Robert Offrey and Wilson Lavers, Sister in Law Margret Henwood (nee Maynard), Brother in Law Sheldon Henwood, Truman Maynard and sister in law Marie Maynard, nephew Bobby Offrey, brother-in-law Lawrence Patey, sisters-in-law Emma Maynard and Liza Maynard, and cousin-like-brother to us all Danny Burt.

She is already deeply missed by close friends Joe and Elizabeth Kennedy, Ann Tulk, Rona White Buffet. “Adopted” children Emanuel and Karin Haueis. Siblings, Helen Patey (Lawrence predeceased), Art Offrey (Linda), Granville Offrey (Diane), Murray Offrey (Rosemary) and Lila Rumbolt, brother-in-law Wallace (Emma predeceased; Liza predeceased) Maynard. Plus many nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.

Her capacity for loving kindness was known by all. Her door was always open to friends, family & anyone in need.

Mom, we are listening for your footsteps as you walk across heaven’s floor.

A brief visitation will take place on Saturday August 6th, 2022 from 10 – 1p.m. at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road.  A Memorial service will follow held at 2pm on Saturday, August 6, 2022. Service will be livestreamed for family and friends not able to attend in person.

In lieu of cut flowers, please plant something in her memory.

Cards, letters and notes are gratefully received.

O’ Regan Rd. holds the most precious memories of childhood for me. The countless hours spent running through the yards of 62, 64 and 66, splashing in the plastic swimming pools, running through sprinklers, building snow forts, all under the watchful eyes of our moms. The times we were allowed in the infamous “playroom” was on par with a trip to Disneyland in my eyes. Your mom provided so much joy for me as a little girl with her welcoming smile, hugs and kisses. However, I also knew she wouldn’t let us get away with anything but did so in a loving,,kind way.
My dear mother loved your mom to bits! I was always and forever grateful for Marlene’s ability to make her smile….and not just smile…but to laugh out loud. That was your mom’s true magic.
The best part is that you three girls always smile with a laugh, just like your mom. She definitely lives on within the three of you.
Love and hugs to you all. May she Rest In Peace.

GONE fr. Our Sight, BUT, Not fr. Our Hearts!!!

To a angel that walked on earth, one that would give the last scrap of food she had, or anything for that matter. Each time we meet it was a smile and hug, and I mean each time she saw you in the run of a day. Her love shines in her 3 beautiful daughters, who were her world. Mom Marlene, I’m shedding a tear for the hurt the family is feeling but happy tears for your family that was waiting for you to walk you through heaven’s pearly gates. Fly high sweet mom and give my dad a kiss for me.
Love you sweet lady.
Thank you lord for the opportunity of knowing this great lady

Amanda, Colleen and Monique .
I can still hear her laughter and just loving being around her. It wasn’t that often but often enough to like her and feel ever welcome. She made me feel she was happy to see me no matter when I was there, what she was doing or wearing.. when I would drop by to see Amanda. She ad great spirit and how I loved her smile! I will miss seeing her there when I visit Amanda again. Her spirit lives on and I am truly sorry that she had to leave. May knowing she is ever with you all bring you comfort. You are all angels.

To Amanda, Colleen and Monique,

What an amazing, strong and supportive woman your Mom was.
I’m so happy I got to see her a few weeks back. Not in the perfect place but none the less we spoke, laughed and loved each other for just a short time .It was a surprise to all of us but the best surprise to see her beautiful face.
I will always remember your Mom , my cousin with great pride and so much love. While ever I was in her presence I felt nothing but love, and kindness . She had that way with everyone I think who had the pleasure of saying they knew her.
She was an amazing ,strong person . She will be missed by so many. I’ll certainly miss her hugs.

I loved her dearly as I love all of you .
