Passed peacefully away on September 11th, 2023 in St. Petersburg, FL at the age of 90, Mary Mildred Oakley (nee Ford) with her loving and dear companion Don Barnes by her side.  Predeceased by her husband; James Lionel Oakley; sister, Shirley Gordon; parents, Walter and Molly Ford; infant son, Scott; and son, Stephen.

To celebrate her long life, her son Geoff (Kim), daughters, Karen Watts (David), Janet Pinhorn (Jeff), and Mary Catherine Oakley (Ted).  Her grandchildren Mark (Amy), Nicole Gamberg (Tim), Heather Barbour (Justin), Liam Oakley, Kelsey Goobie (Tyler Evans); special great grand daughter Lilah Joy Gamberg; Mom’s angel and best friend Don Barnes (St. Petersburg, FL); childhood friend and classmates Patricia Starviski (Burns) Ohio.

From the time Mom graduated as valedictorian from her class she entered the business work force full steam ahead.  Starting as a secretary with the London, New York & Paris she moved onto a position with U.S. Fort Pepperell Base, the Canadian Government with family allowance, credit department with I.A.C. Niagara and final years as a director and accountant with Oakford Rental & Realty Co. Ltd for over 30 years.  Her heart was always in St. Pete Beach.  Enjoying great times with special friends Kay Wadden & Libby Hiscock.

Mom loved to dance, from the jitter bug, ballroom, foxtrot, and country line dancing.  In later years, missing Newfoundland, she loved to listen to Irish and Newfoundland music.  Full of life to the nth degree.  Fierce card player and savvy businesswoman.  She lived life to the fullest and didn’t waste a minute of her time here on earth.  Carpe diem (Live each day to the fullest).

Heartfelt thanks to the staff and nurses at Suncoast Hospice in St. Petersburg Florida for the warmth and excellent care they provided to Mom during her final days.
