December 3, 1935 to May 19, 2024

Obituary

Mary (Patricia) Maddigan passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 19th, 2024, at 88 years of age. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Francis (Court) Maddigan; brother, Bill Organ (Kay-deceased); sister, Marg Kirsebom (Peter-deceased); and parents, James and Elizabeth Organ.

She leaves behind wonderful memories with her children: Michael (Cathy); Louise (Ken); Jane (Tony); and Stephen (Heather); sisters: Louise O’Grady (Frank-deceased); and Elizabeth Moore (Leo-deceased); grandchildren: Laura Hann (Mike); Lauren Avery (Connor); Beth Avery (Matthew); Emily and Jennifer Maddigan; Nathan Maddigan; step-grandchildren: AJ and Adam Caines; Alex and Dylan Bridger; great-grandchildren: Fallon and Raegan Hann; sister-in-law: Regina (Frank) Nolan; and many other relatives and friends.

Mary was born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and spent her life surrounded by loving family and friends. She appreciated the outdoors, adventuring around Bannerman Park and the Waterford Bridge River during her youth. In her later teens, Mary followed in her mother’s footsteps in banking by taking a position at the Royal Bank. Soon after, she met Court, and they raised their four children on Elswick Road in Corner Brook. Court and Mary shared 64 years of marriage together and loved each other dearly.

In their later years, Mary and Court returned to St. John’s, where Mary took up bridge and continued playing until her passing. She was an avid reader throughout her life, expressing that she had traveled the world through the pages of her books. Mary had a special bond with her sisters and girlfriends, often reminiscing about the good ol’ times when they set off for a weekend out of town together. She cherished her home, and all the beautiful memories it held.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a strong and resilient woman, with a laugh that filled the room. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Cremation has taken place.

Michael, Louise, Jane, Stephen, Mom, and Aunt Lib,

So sad to see Aunt Mary go. Was looking forward to crossing paths with her after my retirement this year.

I remember Aunt Mary from my early years on Whiteway St. being over visiting Mike, Louise, Jane, and Stephen with my brother, John. John and Mike were good friends and I used to tag along and of course see Aunt Mary.

When Aunt Mary moved out to Elswick Rd., in Corner Brook I had the pleasure of dropping in many times to see the Maddigan’s. Aunt Mary and Uncle Court always had the house open to us for whatever reason we were coming and most of the time it was for athletic reasons and staying with Aunt Mary.

I will always remember Aunt Mary giving me the “low down” on things. She would always begin by saying with a stern, take no prisoner stare “Now listen Brian……”

I respected Aunt Mary so much and loved her for who she was.

God Bless Aunt Mary!
