It was so sad to learn of White’s passing. I did not know her well but her strength and commitment to her loved ones and Newfoundland culture were evident at all times. My condolences to Greg, Sandy and the White and Malone families.

Mary (and it’s a lovely photo) was a bright, positive, creative, kindly person who worked intelligently and unassumingly for good things to happen. The heaviest thing about good people is we end up having to miss them. I suppose that’s the burden of life, the burden that paradoxically would vanish only if the good things were not there. So that heaviest burden is a reflection of the good they did. Happy journeys, Mary White!

My deep condolences to Greg, Sandy and all of White’s families, relatives, and friends. My special memory of White is from the 80’s. I was invited to Christmas dinner and I looked through the oven door and I said to White that looks like an excellent turkey. White looked at me with her piercing eyes and gave a big smile and moved on. Of course when dinner was served there was no turkey, just a huge roasted pumpkin! Best to all.

Our deepest sympathies to the White and Malone families. White was an amazing human being, so kind, considerate, intelligent and very reliable. The kindest person you could ever meet, so full of wisdom. White put everybody else first, even when she was so sick. We will miss her immensely. We have such good memories of all the fun we had together. Thank you for all you did.

We are all born to create and Mary lived that on many levels. She created not only the most wonderful organic garden I’ve ever experienced but also fertilized many artists, actors and musicians with her solid belief in the value of creativity. She once to0k me to a special river swimming spot and simply said “It doesn’t get better.” Wisdom I’ve never forgotten.
She impressed me deeply with her ability to be totally present and live the moment. Her family and friends have been so very fortunate to share her life. With love, Twyla

My deepest condolences to White’s family, and to all who knew and loved her – a great many people indeed. May you find strength in one another, and may her memory be a comfort.

My heart goes out to White’s family and friends at this sad time . What an immense contribution she has made to the local arts scene! Sending comfort and gratitude for all she gave.
In peace

I would like you to please pass along my condolences to all of Whitey’s family and close friends. I have not seen her for many years but we had great fun back in the days. She always had a great sense of humour

The last time I visited Newfoundland, I stayed with my
Aunt Jennifer and Cousin David. Greg and Whitey spend the evening with us, and Whitey affectionately told me that I’m welcome to Newfoundland any time and they will always be family. That has stuck with me for the entirety of my adult life, knowing that kindness like that existed in the world. Thank you, Whitey, for reminding me that Newfoundland is a truly special place filled with special people. You will be so missed by all

Greg, Sandy, Marion, Beni and the rest of the families, White always had a kind, gentle and honest word for me. She will be missed. It’s like losing an Oracle.
Condolences to you all.

So many images come to mind remembering Whitey, but most of all it was her caring for others and how to help others in need that stand out. She had a big big heart and shared her love of life with so many. Although it’s been many years now, when Terry and I lived in St. John’s, we looked forward to visits at Forest Road and Avondale, where we had many wonderful meals only to be outdone by the companionship of the host that created memories of fun filled afternoons.
Our deepest condolences to all her family, your loss is large but she will live on in those she loved.

Greg, so sorry to hear of Whitey’s passing. My condolences to all the family.

Our deepest condolences to all the family at this sad and difficult time. Whitey was a beautiful soul, and you always felt better being in her presence. May she rest in peace.

What an enormous loss. My heart goes out to all of White’s many loved ones. I will be forever grateful to have known her and felt her friendship, encouragement, intelligence and humour. Thank you, White!

Greg, Dashi, Django and all the White and Malone families, we were so sorry to hear of Whitey’s passing. She was an amazing woman and a sweetheart. We always loved running into her and having a grand chat – she only ever called me Herbie! Last time I saw Whitey she was elbows deep making kimchi!

Thank you to Whitey for everything she did for CODCO, WGB and all the arts! She will be truly missed here, but I am sure Tommy and Ron were very excited to see her!

I was introduced to Mary once a long time ago by Greg , when What Do YouWant to See the Harbour for, Anyway? was in the early stages of development. Someone told me that, behind the scenes, she was the steady hand that guided CODCO., and that she was just called White. Her demeanour was.quiet, almost self-effacing, but I sensed I was in the presence of a confident and grounded person. That was it. I don’t think our paths crossed again. But I am saddened now to hear that she is gone from this world. and to read the wonderful tributes of those who knew and loved her well. She, and all her family and friends, are in my thoughts this weekend.

My condolences. WHITE always steadied the path and loved all..TOTAL CLASS.

To the family, Greg, Sandy, Beni, Marion and the family of friends, my heartfelt condolences. Straddling the old Newfoundland by just over a month, Whitey was among the first of this generation to breathe in the lifeblood of this new and beckoning province. A force of nature in her own place and time, nature has claimed yet another of our own with her departure. This province (and country) owes her life and memory a huge debt. We are at a loss with her passing.

To Greg and the White family, please accept our condolences on Mary’s passing. She certainly made her mark on earth and her great memories will last forever. Thinking about you all at this difficult time.

Greg and family,
Our deepest sympathy to you all. Whitey was a warm, funny and welcoming person. She will be missed by all who knew her..

Greg, Sandy and Mary’s family and friends,
I am so very sorry to hear about Mary’s passing. She was a great friend to my grandmother, and I always loved to hear about their visits. They spent many an hour making pickles and beets, and even more hours chatting on the phone.
Mary always checked in on her when she was sick, sad, or had a good story to share. She loved to make Nanny laugh.
The stories of the hippies on dock ridge were part of my entire life. Thank you for sharing Mary and her love with our family.

Danielle Doyle

Greg my deepest condolences to you and your family. I met Whitey on a few occasions meeting with you and while I knew she was associated with WGB and Codco I never knew the role she played in shaping and managing our popular culture. She has sailed in search of new horizons now and we wish her well on this journey.

Greg and family, my condolences on your loss of such a pillar in your lives.

To Greg and her extended family: I did not know Whitey well (was never even sure if that was the name I should address her by) but whenever we met, I was impressed by her generous spirit. She always deflected attention away from herself and towards others. I do know that she was part of that group of young people who unwrapped Newfoundland culture for us, as well as for outsiders–a history that remains to be written. Her contribution and her spirit will not be forgotten. Please know that I am thinking about you and your family.

My sincere condolences to all the family especially Greg.. You were her rock till the end. Whitey was always a force to be reckoned with and I so admired her gentle strength. She will be missed by all who ever spent time in her company. But it’s nice to know she is reunited with Tommy and Ron….now that will be a time!!

An amazing women. Bright, humerus, caring, thoughtful and loving. She was an example for us all and will be sorely missed by all of us who had the privilege of calling her a friend and confidant much love to her family and particularly Greg her constant partner at this sad time.
The very best to all who are affected by her loss.
Barbara and Denis Barry

A woman who made life that much better for us all. Warm up heaven’s kitchen stove for one hell of a party. Tommy and Ron are only getting started.

Our thoughts and feelings are with all of you.. Whitey goes with a great deal of love surrounding her forever.. ❤

Greg and Sandy and family. I am so saddened for your loss.

To Greg, Sandy and all Whitey’s large and loving family., we offer our condolences for your great loss. We also celebrate Whitey for her full life brimmed with intelligence, gentleness, mentorship, and. authenticity. We shared a few. cups of tea when Greg and I were knee deep in the various public policy debates (hydro, fisheries, forestry to name a few). Whitey made an excellent cup of tea but the conversation that.accompanied it was even better. As a stalwart Newfoundlander – Whitey’s passion and commitment shone. She was a fierce protector of family and with her skills she was more than successful at it. It is sad that she has passed but I can’t but smile as I remember this ‘behind the scenes’ powerhouse of a person; who leaves her mark to live on. .

To Connie and all the family. So sorry for your loss. She will be missed by all who’s lives she touched. Sending love, deepest sympathy, and prayers for comfort and peace for you and all of your family. From Shirley and Armin, Upper Island Cove, NL.

A very sad loss to the family of a lovely and kind lady. May you be at peace with your Lord and family 🌸🌸🌸

This is very sad news
Deepest condolences to Greg, Sandy, Marian, her whole family and many friends.
RIP “Whitey”

Whitey was a lovely light. She was always so pleasant to me and endlessly encouraging; from my very first days in the production business of the late 80’s as production assistant with CODCO, right on up through to me finding my own place as a filmmaker in my own right. Whenever we crossed paths she was genuinely interested in what I had going on before I even had a chance to get a question in about HER latest project. I always loved seeing her coming because I knew we were about to have a real conversation – not just an obligatory “hey – how are ya?” at a gathering. This news truly makes me sad. My thoughts are with all her family and endless circle of friends. How fortunate we are to have to been part of her adventure here.

Greg and family so sorry for your loss deepest condolences RIP
