Maurice Gladstone Winsor

November 16, 1955 to December 3, 2023

Obituary

Maurice Winsor passed away suddenly at the Health Sciences Centre on December 3, 2023, after an unexpected illness at age 68.

Maurice is predeceased by his parents Gladstone and Martha Winsor. Leaving behind with loving and cherished memories are his wife Donna Jamieson Winsor, daughter Sherri Winsor, son Rob Winsor (Natasha); stepchildren Heide Ajersch (Peter) and Jalilah (Gilliane) Aboutaieb (Ilyass), as well as his grandchild Katie; sisters Doreen Esperanza and Pauline Morgan (John), brother Paul Winsor (Michelle), uncle Jack Winsor, Aunts Rita Ralph and Stella Winsor, and many nieces, nephews, and a large circle of family and friends.

Born in St. John’s, NL, Maurice was considered a jack of many trades. He studied trades in post-secondary education, including upholstery, and for several years managed Parsley’s Convenience in several locations around the city. Maurice found his passion while providing respite care for clients who were near to his heart, especially his long-term client Jason.

Maurice loved to work with his hands and could fix almost anything. He was a creative soul who held a passion for art, creating glassworks and sandblasting. A confident cook, he was proficient in the kitchen – turning out turkeys for the holidays, he even attended an annual Boxing Day brunch as a one-man waffle making-station. He was a year-round grill-master who looked forward to a BBQ every Friday, despite the weather.

He was a great conversationalist who loved to keep folks on their toes and offered a signature smile with a glint in his eye to let you know if you were keeping up. Maurice was a kind-hearted, compassionate, and gentle person who added to every room he entered, and he will be sorely missed.

Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Sunday, December 10, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Carnell Memorial Chapel.

Donna and family, we were absolutely crushed and heart broken to hear about Maurice’s sudden passing. We will always cherish his and your love and dedication towards Jason’s care. The 17 plus years that he was a vital part of our lives made him a part of our family and he will never be forgotten. Jason still has a picture of you and Maurice on his night stand and it sits next to a photo of our parents when they were both well. Three beautiful souls. Take care and god bless Donna.
