It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Maxwell Beckett on March 11th, 2022. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his beloved wife of 59 years, Phyllis (nee Goobie). His children he cherished beyond words, Natalie, Philip, Tommy (Dana Valone). Also left with the most loving memories of their ‘Pop’, grandchildren Chelsea (Brent), Lucas, Tevon, Max, Noah (Kathryn) and Noah’s father Wade. His pride and joy, great grandchildren Kohen (and his mother Jenn) and Ellie. Brother Charlie (Dora) and family. Sister in law Ella Bailey (Alfred, deceased) and her family. Also left to mourn are a large circle of nieces and nephews, the Valone family, other extended family, and many lifelong friends.

Predeceased by his father and mother, Charles and Daisy and his mother and father in law Tom and Louise Goobie. His siblings Calvin, Cecil, Owen, Edwin, Ruby, Helen, and Eva.

Max was not only tall in stature, but he was tall in life. As soon as he entered a room it lit up with his charisma, welcoming smile, and hugs. We are so blessed to have shared so many wonderful memories with him.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family. Mr Beckett had a major impact on my personal life, to which I will be forever grateful. Rest in peace.

Phyllis, our sincere sympathy to you and your family. Although we have not been in touch in recent years, we have great memories of 1966-67 when we all lived on Weymouth Street and Roger and Natalie spent many hours playing together.

Phyllis and Family. I was deeply saddened to have read that Max has passed. I have held Max in highest of respect, not only as the greatest teacher ever, ’68 & 69, but also a great friend and mentor. He taught me about poetry and great poets, especially Robert W Service and “The Cremation of Sam McGee”. This poem I remember to this very day. We stayed in touch over the years, both home and Florida. H e always called me on my Birthday, “the Ides of March”, from Shakesperare. You were right, that he would light up a (class)room. You wouldn’t daydream there….you learned. May the Lord be with you all as you journey through this difficult time. God Bless you all.
