In loving memory of our father, Norbert Vincent Philpott, also known to many as Dob, of St. John’s, NL.
He peacefully passed away at the age of 83, surrounded by his younger brother Kevin Philpott,
daughter Alison Mayo and son-in-law Darrell Mayo, at the L.A. Miller Centre, in St. John’s, NL on
February 23, 2024 after a battle with cancer.

Norbert was born in Coachman’s Cove, White Bay, NL to Bernard and Catherine Philpott. This is the
place where he grew as a young boy with his siblings, and enjoyed life there. Then the family moved to
Toronto, ON. They lived there for a few years until his father, Bernard passed away and then he and his
family returned back to NL and moved to St. John’s. They first lived on Vickers Avenue but eventually
moved to a place on Stamps Lane where his family lived for 15 years.

A few years later, Norbert landed his first job in a shoe repair shop on Duckworth Street, which was
owned by a family member, Pat Joe Philpott. He worked there for a few years and eventually took over
the business from Pat and named it Philpott’s Shoe Repair. During this time, Norbert met a young girl
named Mary, who was the sister of one of his best friends, John Hafey, and she would eventually become
his wife and they went on to have 4 children. After meeting Mary, Norbert started working for Del-Tile.
This kickstarted his career as a tile setter, where he remained until the day he retired.

Norbert was predeceased by his parents Bernard and Catherine Philpott, as well as his sister Anita Hand.
He is survived by his forever loving wife of 60 years Mary; children Bernard (Kendra), Christopher (Mary
Lou), Alison (Darrell) and Michael (Jodi ); 8 grandchildren, Ryan, Victoria, Ashley, Kurtis, Nicholas,
Nathaniel, Jordan and Callum; 2 great-grandchildren Oliver and Elaina; brother Kevin (Helen); sister
Angela (Glenn) and brother Patrick (Beverly). Also, a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the L.A. Miller Centre for their
compassion and care of Norbert during his final days with us.
The family will mourn the loss of our father and encourage any and all who knew him that the wake will
be at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL and will occur on February 29 from 2-4pm and 7-9. As well as March 1 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Please note that Carnell’s Funeral Home is a nut free building, due to a staff member with a sever allergy. Thank you for your cooperation.

Funeral service will be held at St. Teresa’s Parish, 120 Mundy Pond Road, St. John’s, NL on March 2, 2024
at 10am. The service will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend.

Following the funeral, family and friends are invited to Norbert and Mary’s home for food, drink, and to share memories and stories.
Flowers are gratefully accepted.
