Obituary

Born in Norris Point, NL on March 25, 1930 and passed peacefully on November 7, 2022 at the Pte. Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear.  Betty Grandy, aged 92 spent her adult life in St. John’s living on Torbay Road with her predeceased husband Reginald Grandy in the home that he built.

Also predeceased by parents Martin and Margaret Bugden, brothers Martin (Ivy), Fred (Vivian), and sister Geraldine Williams.

Left with a lifetime of fond and loving memories her children Judy (Bill Finn), Shirley (Geoff Wright), Elizabeth (Ray Cook); 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister Millie (Clyde Earles); brothers Claude Bugden (Claire), Gerald Bugden (Vivian); brother-in-law Reg Williams; sisters-in-law Lila Grandy, Alma Grandy, and Sheila Banfield (Merle).  Betty will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of 4 South at Pte. Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion for their compassion and care.

Cremation has taken place.  The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday, November 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Friday, November 11 at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in Betty’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, St. Mary’s Anglican Church, or a charity of one’s choice.

So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. True family friends and neighbours on Torbay Road. It is a sad time to see another pillar of history to come to a close. We are unable to attend her service but know we are thinking of you all at this difficult time.

Judy, Shirley, Elizabeth & families, Uncle Calude, Aunt Millie, Uncle Gerald & families- my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Aunt Betty was a beautiful lady in every way. Aunt Betty was truly a remarkable woman, raising her three daughters and opening her home on Torbay Road to family and friends. There are too many good memories of her to mention them all. She will rest in heaven with all those that were waiting patiently for her to arrive.
