Peggy Collins of St. John’s passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family at The Agnes Pratt Home in St. John’s on Thursday, May 4, 2023, aged 75 years.  Glovertown was her childhood home and she moved to St. John’s in 1965 to attend university and then married her sweetheart Glenn Collins in 1969.  They lovingly raised two children, Paula and Jonathan, in St. John’s.  Peggy particularly enjoyed the time she spent with her family in Terra Nova, especially with her four grandchildren Paige, James, Ryan and Sam.

Peggy’s strength of will and capacity for love of family far surpassed her delicate stature.  She delighted in providing her family with delicious and hearty gourmet meals served with love, fellowship and impeccable good taste.  She will be deeply missed every day.

Peggy spent her career with Memorial University of Newfoundland working at both the Queen Elizabeth II and the Health Sciences Libraries.

She is predeceased by her parents Jim and Eileen Wells (nee Perry), her parents-in-law, Wilfred and Minnie Collins (nee Winsor), sister-in-law Beryl Brown and brothers-in-law Elwin Vaters and Jesse Brown.

Leaving behind with saddened hearts are her husband Glenn, children Paula (Alex) and Jonathan (Krista), siblings Mac Wells (Louise), Sandy Wells, Jerry Wells (Karyl), Tony Wells (Christine) and Pam Skiffington (John), grandchildren Paige, James, Ryan and Sam, sisters-in law Yvonne Vaters and Doreen Rogers (Clyde), brothers-in-law Edmund Collins (Joy), Byron Collins (Linda), Mervin Collins (Tina) and Dwight Collins (Rosalind), many nieces and nephews and a large circle of family and friends.

The family extends sincere thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated and compassionate staff at The Agnes Pratt Home, who took such remarkable care of Peggy during the last two years.

The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Sunday, May 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday, May 8 at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow in the Salvation Army Cemetery, Blackmarsh Road.  The funeral service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend, with the link available above.

Flowers graciously accepted, or donations in Peggy’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or The Agnes Pratt Home Foundation.

I am saddened with the passing of Aunt Peggy. I have fond memories of a lady I loved dearly. Early in my career when traveling to St John’s for work she was always so generous in bringing the family together for a meal. My favourite was her Cod au Gratin, scallop potatoes and the assortment of delicious desserts. that followed I traveled to St John’s often for many years and I cant remember a time we didn’t get together. I looked forward to that part of my trip so much. She always had a big smile and was so happy and eager to learn about my life. I will cherish those times and remember her as beautiful, kind, and genuinely caring person who always made the time for me. Condolences to Uncle Glenn, Paula, Jonathon and family.

Love,
Shawn, Amanda, Jack and Skyler
