It is with sadness but many wonderful memories, we announce the passing of Dr. Raymond Anthony Duffy. Predeceased by his parents Eileen (McDowell) and Francis Duffy, brothers Gerard (Missouri) Kevin (California) and Brendan (Florida). Leaving to mourn loving wife Ruth Duffy (Falconer), son Gavin (Anna Katic) Daughters Amanda (Peter Bull), Brenda (Ed Mercer), Lisa (Glenn Butler); grandchildren Conor and Nicola Duffy, Ethan and Aidan Mercer, and Ronan and Cormac Bull; brother Adrian Duffy (Eileen) of Washington, DC, sister Eileen Duffy and brother Gregory Duffy (Pauline) Ireland, plus many nieces and nephews throughout Virginia, Missouri, Florida, California, and Ireland with whom he shared many great times.
Raymond was educated in Ireland. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin, Ireland and then worked anesthetic residencies in Ireland, England, Newfoundland and the United States. He moved to St. John’s to join the Newfoundland Anaesthesia Associates in 1962 and worked in all of the St. John’s hospitals. In 1965, he joined Dr. Charles Henderson in the department of Anaesthesia in the new Charles A Janeway Children’s hospital. He left there in 1973 to work exclusively in St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital from which he retired in 1994.
Ray Duffy was a quiet hard working man who lived life with enthusiasm. He enjoyed adventurous family holidays from which he provided many photographic memories. One could say whether at work or with family Raymond Anthony Duffy was one who made a difference.
The Duffy family wishes to thank Dr. Patel and the staff of 3NW of Pleasantview Towers for their exemplary care and consideration during a very difficult time.
The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, On Monday January 8 from 3-7 p.m. A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday January 9 at 11:00 a.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
