Obituary

It is with great sadness, we announce the loss of a beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend. Richard Garfield King passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 78, after a long and brave battle with cancer.

Richard was predeceased by his father George King, and mother Hazel King.

Mourning his loss are his son Trevor King, daughter Tracy Saly (Jason), granddaughter Jenna, brother Lloyd King (Phyllis), and extended family and friends. Special thanks expressed to his dear friend Denny Cohen, who provided care and support throughout his illness.

Richard was born in St. Philips and lived in the St. Philips-Portugal Cove area for his whole life. He had a long and fulfilling career as a Land Surveyor. Richard enjoyed the outdoors, in his early years running and cycling, and later in life he could often be found hiking the local trails.  His children and grandchild will remember his special pancakes, cheesecake, love of dark chocolate, fine dining, and wine.

Thank you to his oncologist Dr. Jacqueline Costello and the numerous medical staff who provided great care and treatment.

As per Richard’s request, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering has been held with closest loved ones. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.carnells.com

Richard and I spent a number of years back in the 1970’s and early 80’s training for and running the many races that were popular back then. and still are as far as I know., along with another competitive runner named Bill Hillier who is no longer in the province as far as I know. I have to apologize for not learning of Richard’s passing until recently but better late than never. My condolences to everyone affected by his passing.
