It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our adoring, as well as adored loved-one, Sadie Tucker, age 83 years on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, surrounded by family, at Pleasant View Towers in St. John’s.

Predeceased by her parents Edward (Ned) and Sarah Green; loving partner of forty years, Edward Patrick Mahre; sisters Irene Skiffington, Stella Pye and Gertie Gill; brothers-in-law Jack Gill, Benjamin Bungay, Harvey Simms and Lester Skiffington; daughter-in-law, Wendy Tucker.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her sons George (Ruby) of Torbay, Paul of St. John’s, daughter Kim (Rita) of Davidson, Saskatchewan; grandchildren Allison Boland (Matt) and Zachary; great-grandchildren Isla (Sadie) and Jesse; brother Robert Green (Mary) of Paradise; sisters Daisy Bungay of Newtown, Rose Vincent (Howard) of Newtown and Doris Simms (Clem) of Springdale; brother-in-law Edward Pye of Newtown; special friends Roy Tucker of C.B.S., Jennifer Goodyear (Joe) of Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia and Linda Jesso of St. John’s; a large circle of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Infinite gratitude must be expressed to the residents and staff of Pleasant View Towers (4th floor, S.E.) who were Sadie’s other family since she took residency there on October 15th, 2014. The love and care shown to Sadie during her seven years at Pleasant View Towers is appreciated beyond words. Nothing comforted her family more than knowing that she was living in a beautiful facility where her every need was addressed effectively and lovingly 24-7.

Well, there was one other reality that comforted Sadie, and therefore, all her family and friends as well. That extraordinary factor existed in her beloved Cabbage Patch Doll that she called Joey. During her first six-years at the home, Joey was her constant companion. He was her little boy, who dressed in a wide assortment of one-piece newborn sleepers. To Sadie, Joey was real and needed her as much as she needed him. When one asked Sadie how Joey was doing, her favourite refrain was… “He’s quite a boy, not the murmur from him!” If kisses and hugs could give life to a doll, then Joey would have surely taken on human qualities many years ago. Joey was the lucky recipient of Sadie’s devotion, singing, care and love just like most of her family and friends had enjoyed prior to Sadie’s Alzheimer years.

Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s. Visitation on Saturday, September 18th from 11 am – 9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 19th commencing at 11 am from the chapel at Carnell’s Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. On behalf of Mom’s (Sadie’s) family, thank you sincerely for your thoughtful & kind comments. Your thoughts & insights have done much to highlight Mom’s wonderful attributes. It’s precious to hear how she was valued and loved by so many people. Thank you all. Take care and do stay in touch.

To Sadies family you have been truely blessed to have her in your lives. I know the staff on 4SE have been blessed. If we were ever having a bad day a trip to Sadies room always cheered you up. My favorite memories would have to be
singing ‘You are my sunshine’ before bed. My heart is broken that she is gone. You have my deepest condolences. She was an amazing woman.

Please know we are thinking of you all at this sad time. . Sadie was a wonderful person who did so much for everyone. . She will be missed. Sincerely Jennifer and Joe.

George, Paul and Kim,
We are very sadden to hear of Aunt Sade’s passing.. she had a spirit that could light up any room and she has left us all with so many wonderful memories. As a child I remember her singing “You are my sunshine” with Alison. Aunt Sade certainly was a ray of sunshine to all those that had the pleasure of knowing her. When you think of her you can’t help but smile. May those memories help you all in the days ahead.
Our deepest condolences

George, Paul and Kim

George, I did not know your mother, but I heard many stories of her from you. From what I read here she passed peacefully and from a place where she was well cared for. I hope that gives you comfort. No matter what age she was, or what age you are…to lose your mom changes your world somehow. Know that I am thinking of you.

To George Paul Kim and family our sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. We have many happy memories of Sade time spent with her and Eddie. Rest In Peace my friend.. Nell and John

Thinking of you all at this very difficult time. Aunt Sadies memories will keep going on. I have lots of fond memories & stories I will cherish forever. She was like a mother to us all. One story…when I was pregnant with Luke she would call mom, especially closer to the end and ask how I was. Mom would say gone to Walmart she would say my god what about her water breaks…she’ll have that youngster in Walmart yet. We loved having visits with her over the years. Her sayings I’ll never forget…I even say some of them myself (and we all know what they are)!
Love to you all Cathy, Terry & Luke

George ,Paul & Kim & your families; It comes with great sadness to hear the passing of Aunt Sadie..We have beautiful memories that we will cherish of your mom back in the day when we were all together. Her beautiful heart that was as big as a mountain & her beautiful sense of humour would brightened up the room when she entered. There was never a sad moment when she was in our presence. She showed her pure love to us all..Her kindness can not be beaten..She would share anything that she had, it didn’t matter how big or small it was. What was hers , it was yours. She will never be forgotten because she was “One of a Kind”. We will always cherish your memories Aunt Sadie.Love always Garry & Maxine

Sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. George & Paul sorry we were not with you during your mon’s final hours. We know she had a long and hard struggle over the past several years with Alzheimer’s. Your dedication to her was phenomenal. Ruby, you were so gentle, kind & compassionate to Sadie. You always made sure her wardrobe was kept in good order and for keeping her little “Joey” clean & dressed…you were outstanding, once again thank you.
Sadie could bring a tear to your eye and at the same time a smile on your face. Our beautiful Sadie “Go Rest High on that mountain”
Love to you all Uncle Bob, Aunt Mary, Aunt Daisy, Aunt Rose (Uncle Howard) & Aunt Dorris.

George,Paul, Kim and your families.I was saddened to hear a few years ago that Aunt Sadie was in a home..Having worked with seniors for over 40 yrs, I have seen how difficult it is for families to accept that their loved one has left them long before the body will.
I loved Aunt Sadie..Her love of laughter, kindness and thoughtfulness did not go unnoticed.
She is with the angels now and in a better place.
God bless you all at this very difficult time..
Love Geraldine
