Samuel C. Perrier

August 6, 1938 to August 31, 2021

Obituary

Passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Leonard Miller Centre on August 31, 2021, after a lengthy valiantly endured struggle with renal failure; without dialysis, Samuel C. Perrier aged 83 years.

Leaving to mourn his beloved wife Joyce (Downton), cherished children Paul and Tina (Chan), son-in-law Shong, his precious granddaughters Samantha and Sabrina; and most of all, his adored little feline friend “Cuddles”.

Sam was predeceased by his parents: Charles and Cassie Perrier (Benoit), his first wife Elizabeth “Betty” (Bursey), the mother of his children, and his first treasured cat “Puddy”. He was also predeceased by sisters and brothers: Sadie, Mary, Stanley, Max, Wallace, Milly, Cora, Cliff, Mattie and Larry.

Sam also leaves behind a large circle of much loved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews as well as his lifelong friends, Hayward White, Harry Bourden, Henry Pilgrim, and his close circle of hunting friends, who all know who they are.

He was a great outdoors man who loved hunting, skidooing, cutting wood, and mostly spending time at his cabins on Ashuanipi River, Noel Paul River and lastly on Lloyds River. Sam was a jack of all trades who had a variety of careers including heavy equipment operator (IOCC), train engineer for QSNL Railway, co-owner of Cornelius Pizza and Spaghetti House while he was in Labrador City. He then went to work with Domfab, Wallken Enterprises, and Chester Dawe, all latterly in the packaged home divisions.

Sam was especially proud to have his Mik’maq heritage finally recognized when he was accepted as a member of the No’kmaq Village, Flat Bay Band.

His family wishes to express much gratitude to the Goulds Community Nurses, for their outstanding understanding, care and support. Also to the staff of the Medicine Shoppe 470 Topsail Road for their kindness and attention to details of Sam’s medications and family support. We are very appreciative to Dr. Ian MacPherson and his multi-disciplinary team at the Kidney Care Centre on Topsail Road, for their treatment, programming, guidance and support. Lastly, to those Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics of the Palliative Care Unit and home care programming, we applaud you for your compassion, care and support.
