Sandra Hancock

December 24, 1965 to January 26, 2021

Obituary

The family of Sandra Rosa Hancock would like to inform one and all of her unexpected passing after a short illness on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.  Sandra was born in Botwood, NL on Christmas Eve, 1965.  She was 55 years old.

Predeceased by her Dad, Hayward Hancock and Mom, Florence Hancock, Sandra leaves a large circle of friends and family including her spouse, Bradley Dean and his family, Her brothers: Jim (Patti), Bob (Marg), Sisters: Rita (Owen), Ruth (Ron), Beatrice (Henry).  Her precious Nieces, Nephews, Great Nephews, Great Nieces, and Great Great Niece and their respective spouses.  Her co-workers from St. John’s, NL, Botwood, NL, Norwood, PA and especially her Natuashish Labrador Grenfell Health team and Natuashish Community members. Left too is close friend Joy Barrett who was a great part of her life since their graduation from The General School of Nursing, St. John’s NL and working together at the clinic in Natuashish.

She also worked at teaching the PCA Course at CNA at Grand Falls-Windsor, and took on other nursing duties outside her regular employment.  She excelled at her profession and continued her education throughout her career.

Sandra’s special gifts were apparent from a very early age as she was a pleasant and somewhat shy child who was considerate of all who knew her.  She was an ideal student who was respected by her teachers. Her choice of becoming a Nurse was in keeping with her kind, caring nature. Sandra shared love in all her activities.  She enjoyed cooking and baking and sharing the fruits of her labours with many people.  Her kitchen was always in use.  She gave whatever she could to whomever needed it.  Clothes, groceries, meals and advice were given to all with no thought of being repaid.  Her main desire was to help others.

Sandra had important priorities.  Babies ranked high on the list.  She sent us many pictures of her little patients as they held her heart while she tended to their illnesses.  Her other ‘babies’ were her three dogs.  Her job consisted of the constant care of people who needed her medically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  Her faith remained constant in the wake of unimaginable sadness and anxiety associated with her job.  She felt her tenure in Natuashish was her calling, she would quote the Chorus, “Just Where He Needs Me, My Lord Has Placed Me”.  She loved the community and its people unconditionally.

Sandra’s kind nature, devotion to people’s care, great sense of humour and listening to other’s problems will be extremely missed by all who knew her.

Her celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9th at the Salvation Army Citadel in Botwood, NL by invitation only, as per COVID restrictions. A streaming of the service will be available via Zoom – details will follow.

Sincere condolences to all the Hancock family , Bradley and of course her close friend Joy.
I was very shocked to hear this news. Sandra and I shared a house together in North West River when we worked at Mani Ashini Clinic .
She enjoyed to cook and so did I , so lots of times we took turns after work to cook meals.
Sandra talked proudly about her family, and once she discovered that she graduated with one of my sisters well then there was no shortage of talk.
Sandra loved Nursing and was always there to help.
Joy I know you will miss her terrible.
I will pray for you and her loved ones for God to give you strength during this difficult time.
God Bless.
Sandra I will always remember your big smile.
RIP.

Brad it is with great sadness that I heard about Sandra’s passing. She was a great nurse, and a dear friend to many., including her dogs. May her moccasins walk softly in the next world.

To. My Hancock family
As I read through Sandra’s tribute I find myself reminiscing about all the times spent together growing up. From Sunday school to youth group to church Christmas parties. – Sandra was a part of it all and I have so many memories of her.
A bright light and a wonderful person gone too soon.
Sending love to all of Sandra’s family and friends.

An absolutely heartfelt tribute to a beautiful lady. Sandra was a nursing classmate of mine to which I am so privledged that our paths crossed oh so many years ago. As friends we shared so many great memories as our professional lives were just beginning, from study groups to enjoying the nightlife as students with no responsibilities. These memories for no one can erase shall be with me fir an eternity. It is quite obvious that Sandra had a well accomplished career as a Nurse and I take solace in knowing that heaven must of needed our sister more than we did. Sandra I know that you are resting peacefully with your parents and we shall meet again someday . Condolences to your husband and your family and friends left here but we’re not only lucky but very grateful to have shared this life with you. Dave Flower RN

Sandra was an amazing person. I would describe her as brave, compassionate, and skilled beyond measure. She always did what needed to be done in times when others would simply have panicked. Beyond technical skill however was sandra’s skill with people, she knew her patients not just for their disease but also for their struggles and triumphs at home. Sandra made my job easy everyday and I enjoyed our chats very much. It was clear in those chats Sandra’s love for her family back in Newfoundland. I am left with no words to express my sympathies to Brad and Joy but offer my support and please know I am always open to chat.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sandra when she worked with us at the Mani Ashini Clinic in Sheshashiu, her love of nursing, care she gave to her patients and her cheerful personality made each day at work an enjoyable one. You will be sadly missed, rest easy hunny ????

An incredible and inspiring nurse, I feel deeply fortunate to have been able to get to know and work with Sandra. I only wish it were for longer. She has left a legacy that will forever impact the community of Natuashish and her Labrador-Grenfell Health family. She is so sorely missed and I send my condolences to Brad and the family.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Sandra’s passing. I met Sandra while working in Natuashish years ago. She was such a passionate and caring person who was so dedicated to her nursing role and the community. I have many fond memories of gatherings at Sandra’s for her delicious home-cooked meals and sharing laughs. Thinking of her partner Bradley, family, best friend Joy, co-workers, and the community of Natuashish.

To the Hancock Family and Bradley,

A ‘SPECIAL’ thought and prayer is extended to you, Bradley, as you deal with the loss of your beautiful partner. May she rest in peace.

To :The Hancock & Dean Families . So very sorry to hear of Sandra’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time! Hugs…

Sincere condolences to all the family / extended family and close friends. Such a tragic loss.

To the Hancock family, as well as the Dean family, I wish you some measure of peace at this very difficult time. To her many friends and co workers, I wish you the same. Sandra had so many facets that it would take too much space here to show her full beauty. She was one in a million. She called us co workers “my bebe”. Her words of endearment. She was beautiful inside and out and so much more. She was an adventurer who was not afraid to take on any type of nursing. We will all miss her but none more than you, her family! Gone but never forgotten! ????
