Susan Elizabeth Burry (Stirling)

July 25, 1967 to July 3, 2023

Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of a dear wife, daughter, aunt, and sister Susan Burry on July 3, 2023 at the age of 55.

Pre-deceased by her mother Margaret Stirling (Evans), grandparents Wilfred and Katie Evans (Brown), and Anna Walsh (Stirling) and her beloved puppies Charlie and Allie. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Randy Burry, father Len Stirling (Bernadette), sisters Jane Soper (Bill), Joanne, brother Bill Stirling (Marie), uncle Dave Evans (Sandra), nephews and nieces Matthew Soper (Megan), Katie Payne (Mark), Jenny Stirling (Pat), Evan Stirling (Erica), Alex Stirling and Aaron Stirling, for whom she held a special place in her heart (Katee), her grand nieces and nephews, cousins Sarah Evans and Rebecca Evans (Nick), all the Evans Point “cousins”, brother-in-law Raymond Burry (Wanda) and the rest of the Burry family, life-long friends Marlene Lewis-Hammond (Mike), Anne Legge and Kerry Mercer, and a large circle of family and friends across the globe.

Susan is finally at peace and pain-free after a long journey through life during which she faced adversity after adversity with a fierce determination to win and a never-ending will to live. Susan would not let her illnesses stop her from enjoying what she loved most: being on the water on a calm sunny morning, hooking the first (and biggest) fish of the trip, walking to the Point in Northern Arm, and travelling to meet lifetime friends with whom she worked in the United States. She saw her Mom in every butterfly that danced past her, and her Gramp in every rabbit that hopped around the cabin in Northern Arm.

She was known for her warm heart, her humour, her story-telling, her zest for life and her absolute love for Randy and her nieces and nephews and that is how she will be remembered and celebrated.

A special thank you to Dr. Amanda Tzenov who has been a good friend and guiding light for Susan and Randy through the past several years.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation will be held Friday, July 7 at 10am-12pm, 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. A service to celebrate her life will be held at St. Lawrence Anglican Church in Portugal Cove on Sunday, July 9 at 2 pm. The service will be livestreamed from St. Lawrence’s Anglican Church Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to several causes that where close to her heart; the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society, Daffodil Place, or the SPCA.

So sad to hear of Susie’s passing, my heart breaks for you all. Susie’s personality will always be remembered by those who knew her best. She always had a smile and would make you laugh even on your darkest days. Her kindness towards all people was remarkable and is something I will always remember. Saddened to hear of Sue’s passing. We were classmates in nursing school, Class of ‘88.
Rest in peace now, you were certainly loved by many.

Sincere condolences to the Stirling and Burry families .
I met Sue when we lived together in Southcott Hall. When I think of Sue, the very first thing that comes to mind is her laugh. She had an excellent sense of humour and she loved to laugh. Sue and Bill hung around with a large group of friends; they seemed to know everyone and if they didn’t know you, they made you feel like you knew them a lifetime. But no matter the number of people, Sue and Bill ALWAYS watched out for one another.

Sue was the light in the room,. She was the life of the party. Knowing how kind and softhearted she was, I’m sure many patients were lucky enough to have that beautiful smile greet them.

RIP Sweet Sue ♥️

To Randy and all of the Stirling and Burry families.
So very saddened to learn of Sue’s passing. As classmates of GHSON Class if ‘88, Sue and I have known each other for a long time. Though we did not keep in touch a lot for years, I shared many conversations with Sue and Randy as part of her health care team over the past several years. She always inspired me with her strength and determination to not let her illness define her. Her love for Randy, her family and friends and nursing was obvious every time we spoke. Rest in peace, Susie.

To Susie’s family, So sorry to hear of Susie’s passing, She had a long , difficulth struggle, but through it all remained her kind, sweet, positive self. I went through nsg, school with her and worked with her in Critical care right after graduation , before we went our separate ways. I was so happy to be reunited with her at our 25 year reunion, but so very sorry to hear about her health struggles. We met several times after that and she was always upbeat and positive. Always spoke of Randy as her rock. Rest in peace Susie, fly high.

Randy and all the Stirling Family, our deepest condolences on the passing of Susan. We never seen her much over the last years but no matter when we did meet it was like we never ever lost contact. Sincere condolences to Randy, her Dad, sisters and brother Bill all the family.
So sad to hear of Sue’s passing .We lived in Residence together while studying Nursing and graduated in Class of 88.
So much to say but I would need lots of time and room , so I will say Sue was the greatest soul and just laughed her way through life, but in doing that she considered everyone in love and thought’.
On many occasion I would have knots in my stomach worried about exams the next day ,I can still picture her heading down the corridor saying ‘shag that’ we’ll make it through and than laugh to her hearts desire , and of course made me laugh too.
Gone way too soon but I know Sue would want us to continue to Laugh through it all.
God Bless you Sue I will never forget you, Rest softly my dear friend.
Love [Aggie] and Andy Careen.

To all of Susan’s family,
I was both shocked and saddened to learn of your beloved Susan’s death. We graduated from Nursing School a few years apart. She never ceased to impress me with her positive attitude and sense of humour which shone through during her many health issues. My deepest condolences on your tremendous loss. I will say a prayer for comfort and strength during the difficult days and months ahead.

My gosh the shock to hear the sad news of dear Susie’s passing. Our bright-light on the Point – always so full of laughter and of thoughtful concern for her family. Susie was and continues to be an inspiration to all of us. Throughout her own sickness, she often thought of, and enquired of others. When Dad was at the Health Sciences, Sus and Randy drove around town in between her appointments, to find the perfect ham so she could make her pea soup for Dad. Sus was always asking about her cousins and always with a smile and a twinkle in her eye. “Let’s gather at the Arm and walk to the Point”. I am comforted to know she spent her final days at the cabin, overlooking the bay, surrounded by family.
Randy, Bill, Marie, Dave, Sandra, Joanne, Jane, Len, and all of my cousins – we are holding you all so close in thought and prayer. We love you all as we all so loved Susie. God bless.

What a beautiful tribute. And what a loss. Thoughts are with you all at this very sad time.

Randy, Bill, Marie, Jane, Joanne and Len; I can only imagine your pain as you grieve Sweet Susie. She was special.
Susie and I met in nursing school. We then reconnected in Florida where we bumped into each other and never lost touch again. Susie has been my “little sister” and best friend for almost 40 years. She was so special and loved by everyone who knew her. Funny, smart, beautiful both inside and out and what a fighter. She took every challenge in life and met each one head on. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried and shared a lot of “firsts” together. As I look through our many pics of memories captured, we had fun! Of the many memories I cherish, there’s the night of your 25th birthday, champagne on board (of you), cruising down the beach with your legs out the window and you shouting “Look at me cruising the beach in a Rolls Royce on my Birthday!” We’ve laughed at that a few times since!! I’ll always remember the laughs Susie!
When you think of Susie, remember her beautiful smile, warm laugh and huge heart. She’s with her Mom now, no more struggling, no more pain, no more doctors appts… just you and your Mom, and your Gramps too I bet, watching over us all. I love you Susie. You are dearly missed…. until we meet again XXOO

Very sorry to hear of Susan’s passing! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
