Terry Lionel Whyte

Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, on June 26^th, 2023, the day after his 78^th birthday, Terry Lionel Whyte, of St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Though not a native of Newfoundland, he fell in love with the island and people, and made it his home for many years. It was also where he met his wife and became a father to 3 little girls.

Terry was a known hothead at times but someone who was always there for his family…whether they wanted him there or not. He was always the first to help someone in need. Terry had a love of motorcycles, cars, travelling and family. We know he is now riding his favorite Harley, with his tunes blaring.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents Lionel and Ivy Whyte; and brother in-law Michael Guerard.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Viola Whyte; daughters Lisa McGrath (Jason), Laura Lynn Gibbons (Jeff) and Amanda Gibbons (Gordie); grandchildren Cheyenne, Gordie, Darrian, Alexis, Jessika, Natasha, Colby, Jared, and Ethan; great-grandchildren Carter, Harper, Myles, Baby Gordie and Lennyx; his sisters Joanne Bossey (Robert), Dianne Guerard, and Suzanne Czerkas; brother Denis (Herb) Whyte; and his many nieces and nephews; friends and extended family. Terry will be missed but we are happy that you are home free and painless. Until we meet again.

Special thanks to the staff on 7EA of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and Doctor Amanda Noftall for all their care and compassion. We would also like to thank Mr. Casey, for the care and comfort he gave to Terry in his final days.

As per Terry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will announce a gathering to celebrate Terry’s life in the coming week.
