Obituary

Theodore McCarthy passed peacefully away in his home on August 16th, 2023.  He leaves to mourn a long list of family members including his sisters, Loretta; Jenny (Aloysius) and Carm; sister-in-law Loretta; brothers, Clayton (Cassie), Jim, Con (Mary), Tim (Jeanie); brother-in-law Lorne and special niece Janessa McCarthy.

Ted was predeceased by his parents, Gladys and Patrick McCarthy; brother Michael McCarthy; sister Jackie Maloney, sister-in-law Debbie McCarthy, and brother-in-law Gerald Myles.

Ted loved a game of cards, something he inherited from his mother Gladys, he had a passion for reading and could read a novel in record time, he was one of the most intelligent men you could ever meet, he could answer every question on Jeopardy. Ted had a kind heart and always helped those in need, often putting others needs above his. Ted will be missed by all his family including a long list of nieces and nephews, cousins and all those who had the pleasure to know him.

A special thank you to his siblings who have been there for Ted in the past and recent years. A special thank you to brother Tim for going above and beyond for Ted.

There will be no visitation or funeral service and in-lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Newfoundland & Labrador or The Gathering Place.

Sorry to hear of Ted’s passing. My condolences to all his family. I met Ted in university in the 70s and always admired his broad understanding of English literature and modern culture. We lost touch over the years, but I still remember his laugh, optimism and wit. He was a true gentle soul.

To all my cousins , so sorry to hear of Teds passing. I remember him from my visits as a small kid . May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Teds passing. I remember him as a kind and gentle soul. I fell off my bike and skinned out my knees on the dirt road in Terrenceville and Ted was quick to assist me (probably on his way swimming). My condolences to all the family on the loss of your brother. May peace be his.

Sending condolences to all of Ted’s family! May he RI.P!

To our friends, the McCarthys, Paul and I offer our condolences. It is so sad.
Your love for each other has always shone through every occasion, your joys and your sorrows. Your tribute to Ted is awesome. He was much appreciated.
Hugs to you and yours.

When we were kids, we were visiting Nan’s house and Ted was there. He and Janessa were having a great chat about Romeo and Juliet. Being quite young, I was well out of my element, but he made it a point to explain and include me in the conversation. He always showed us kindness and also extended this kindness to Ian whenever we saw him.
We will fondly remember his words of wisdom, wit and sense of humour.

Until we meet again….

“Good Night
Good night.
Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good night, till it be morrow”

Our condolences go out to all the McCarthy family on Ted’s passing. I met Ted as a young boy in Terrenceville with Clayton and was glad to meet up with him again at his sister Jackie’s wake. Very sorry for your loss, condolences to the family

To all the McCarthy cousins and their families,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your brother, uncle and our cousin. I have good memories of Ted as a little kid when we spent summer vacations with so many cousins. I remember him as an avid reader at an early age. May he rest in peace.

To all my McCarthy cousins , deepest condolences on Teds passing . I have childhood memories of him when we visited Terrenceville . I always remember what an avid reading he was and that would explain how intelligent he was . I last saw Ted in Feb 2013 when he visited my Mom at the Miller Centre . She was so happy to see him and his brother and wife, she asked if I had my camera and take a picture . May your cherished memories give you comfort in the days ahead . Rest In Peace Ted
