Obituary

Died peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2023, Thomas McNeil Munn. Predeceased by his wife, Sandra and parents Henley and Gertrude. Leaving to mourn sister Elspeth Baird (Colin), sons Douglas M. (Dr. Marjorie MacDonald) and Andrew B. (Anna Jurgens); daughter Dr. Katharine M. (Dr. Philip Cabrera); and six grandchildren: Dr. Alexandra, Thomas (Taylor Wilson), Dr. Elizabeth (James Cunningham), and Henley Munn (Maggie Daley) and Daniel (Allie Wolff) and Maria Cabrera.

Dad was an adventurer, and sailor with memorable Atlantic crossings, trips to Iceland and down the coast of Labrador on his beloved Vanguard.  He loved to travel and if he could add in an Arsenal game all the better.  He loved his time with his children and grandchildren taking pride in their accomplishments and encouraging them to explore.

A special thank you to the staff at Tiffany Retirement Village.  Cremation has taken place at Carnell’s Funeral Home. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local food bank.

Katharine so sorry to hear about your Dad. Thinking about you all

To my dear Munn cousins, I was so sorry to hear of Tom’s sudden passing. I only spoke with him in July when I was in St. John’s and he told me of plans to visit Vermont for a wedding and also to look up DA. So sad to think he has gone but we shared wonderful family times over the years and he was such an inspiration to be with. A life well lived and full of memories. Love and Prayers to you all, Lynn (Munn ) Regan. England.

I was so sorry to hear about Tom’s passing. Several generations of the Munn relatives here in Toronto were crazy about him. He was such a delight to be around, so warm and funny with that twinkle in his eye. I will always treasure the memories of his visits here and my own wonderful trip to Newfoundland with my sister Heather. Hope we can maintain that family connection. Love to you all.

Our sincere condolences to the Munn Family on the passing of Tom. Remembering all those special memories will help ease the pain at this difficult time.

Mr. Tom, gave me my first job back in the sixties at Munn and Company and Newfoundland Marine Insurance in The Board of Trade Building.. Both Mr. Tom and Mr. Henley, which was what we called them, were true gentlemen. Mr. Tom was kind and understand man and I loved my time working for him. Sincere condolences to the Munn Family.

To Tom’s family,
Like others, I knew Tom primarily from sailing. I had the privilege to join him and others in delivering his earlier ‘Canadian’ Vanguard to NL from Ontario. You really get to know someone when you’ve sailed in turbulent waters with them. When the going got tough, Tom was still a true gentleman and supportive companion.
Fair seas and gentle winds, Tom, on your final voyage.
John

To the Mun Family, and Tom’s yacht, Vanguard and all those who sailed on her.
. I was with Tom and Eric Facey when we travelled to Finland to take dellivery of Vanguard from her builders, Swan Yacht.s. Many passages followed with Tom, a generous, kind man. Supporded by Sandra always.
Thank you Tom for all the sailing memories with you and Vanguard.. Ever onward and upward, Geoff.

Doug, Elspeth and families
Thinking of you at this time I’m sure he will be missed by all.
Sincerely

My sincere condolences to the Munn Family on the passing of “Mr. Munn” Many fond memories of this man!

Sorry to hear of Mr. Tom’s passing , condolences to the family.
Until recently Mr. Tom sat behind us at St. Andrew’s most every Sunday when he wasn’t travelling the world on one of his adventures. Usually he worshiped alone or sometimes with his Sister Elisabeth. Sharing chocolate or purity kissing was common as was sharing a dry comment at the end of service.
Mr. Tom was so well rooted to the earth that he didn’t need talk a lot. Because everything was obvious.
Mr. Tom loved speed, The light blue Oldsmobile convertible, the tank like Argo thing that we spend around Bairds field in, or the Vanguard Yatch all scooted.
It was always impressive to see him running along the parkway..
He was a great example of a life well lived.

Dear Douglas and family,
So sorry to hear of your Dad’s /Grandad’s passing. He was a kind and gentle man. We will always remember him patiently opening the pool for Sarah and her friends as they raced to be the first in the pool and your mom “life guarding”! He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Love Sandra and Gordon

Our prayers and condolences to the Munn family on the passing of Mr.. Munn. We often saw him jogging along the road and admired his commitment to fitness.
His family is a living tribute to a life well-lived.

With deepest sympathy from the Pellerin family.

Deepest sympathy to the Munn family. I got to know Tom after he had retired from business, and enjoyed four wonderful voyages with him, the first, from Long Pond to the Azores, to Madeira and then to the Canaries; the second from Canaries to Antigua; the third from Antigua to Rhode Island; and, the fourth back to Long Pond. His generosity knew no bounds. A wonderful sailor and companion. RIP Tom.

To the Munn Family

Condolences to you all on the passing of Mr Munn. In later life he continued challenges and adventures showing us all that life continues to the end. An inspiration to all who knew him.

Hi Doug
So sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. I have great memories of him and your mom from my younger days when we lived in Cherry Hill at New Cove Rd. In those days I hung out at Baird’s house, next door to your mom and dads.
