Tony Stuckless passed peacefully away surrounded by family at the Dr. Leonard A Miller Centre, Pallative Care Unit on April 3rd 2024, at the age of 77 years. Predeceased by his parents Flora Stuckless-Hobbs and James Stuckless and stepfather, Levi Hobbs; brothers, Otto, Donald, Arthur, Calvin and his sister, Pearl Andrews, parents-in-law Ronald and Doris Sharpe. Left to live and cherish with fond and loving memories are his wife of 52 years, Linda, his son, Grant (Brian Wade); his daughter, Leanne (Trent Brinston), granddaughter, Eve, step-sister Joselyn (Bob Woodworth), siblings-in-law Kevin Sharpe (Terry), Wayne Sharpe (Heather), Pamela Cahill (Randy), Lorenzo Andrews, Betty, Ruby, and Audrey Stuckless, special nephew Brian Stuckless, and several close family and friends.

Tony began as a businessman at the age of 12 by opening his first barber shop in Point Leamington. It was here that he was blessed to meet his wife of 52 years while she was a young nursing student visiting her friend. He then continued his career as a businessman in Botwood, where he lived most of his life and raised his family with Linda. Tony had a passion for life and had many hobbies that kept him busy. Tony and Linda’s family house in Botwood had a selection of rooms for his many interests such as his office, music room, painting room, antique room, greenhouse, a butcher shop, where he cut many a moose for the community and a garage where he stored his antique cars. He loved music and could play a variety of instruments, but his favorite was the guitar. He was a remarkable artist and created many beautiful paintings of communities, landscapes and landmarks. Tony was a jack of all trades, as he could build and fix anything. He also looked forward to the Spring of the year for the fresh air, sunshine and new growth, as he shared his gardening skill with his son-in-law, Trent and his son, Grant, who has inherited his green thumb. Tony loved to spend the summertime at his camper and socializing with his family and friends, but especially spending quality time with his treasured granddaughter, Eve. She was his world, and he was so very proud of her. He has given Eve nearly 11 years of wonderful memories to carry with her. Tony was a true historian as well. He was intrigued with his native heritage of the Beothuk Nation as he spent the majority of his years researching the history of his heritage. During his research, he wrote and published a book about the Stuckless legacy with his cousin, Ross. Through his love of history, Tony collected a large variety of antiques that he later donated to the Botwood Heritage Society Museum to be enjoyed. He was a past Master of the Botwood Masonic Lodge and past member of the Shriner’s Club.  He served on the Botwood town council from 1993–1997.  Tony loved his family and friends and loved to meet new people and share a story. He always greeted people with a smile and friendly conversation. He and Linda were sure to always make you feel welcome. They did everything together and instilled in their children the importance of family, hard work and making time for enjoyment. He will be missed dearly by his family and all who knew him.

Thank you to Eastern Health care providers over the past 5 months, pastoral care team, and volunteers, Dr. Susan MacDonald and her team, Dr. Louise Rogers, nurse practitioner Lisa, and the staff at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit.

Thank you for the unconditional support and love of family and friends. To Larry and Craig who visited every day, thank you is not enough.

A very very special thank you to his favourite sister-in-law Pam who always brought a smile to his face and who was there every step of the way.  Pam and Randy your immeasurable love cannot be described. You went above and beyond.  What would we have done without you?

Don & I were shocked to hear of Tony’s passing. We have lots of memories of the times we went to Florida on the Wholesalers trips with the kids. The time you & Tony along with two others came to our house “Mummering” at Christmas, we didn’t have a clue who you were (so funny). You have so many memories that will bring a smile to your face in the days ahead.

To Leanne and family:

I am so sad to hear of Tony’s passing… but I have to say, reading his obituary brought a smile to my face. Growing up I spent so much time in the “many rooms” that Tony created and was amazed by them all. He was an interesting and kind man and never minded us chattering girls hanging out at his place. He had a big heart and he will surely be missed.

Much love to Leanne, Linda, Grant and family and may you take comfort in the days to come in the many memories you’ve created over the years together.

Linda, Leanne, Grant and family, Our sincere condolences for your loss. Tony was a true gentleman and will be sorely missed. It was always a pleasure to meet him and have a few words. María and I want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
