Virginia House

February 20, 1951 to April 9, 2024

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the peaceful but unexpected passing of Virginia House, age 73, while surrounded by family and friends at the Health Science Complex on April 9, 2024.

She is predeceased by her Dad John Oates (lost at a very early age), and her Mom, and Step-Dad, Nina (Slade) and Cyril Gollop.

Virginia leaves with fond and cherished memories her daughter Lynn (Patrick Steeves) and her son David (Jessica Laing).  She also leaves behind her brothers and sisters, Cyril Gollop (Carol), Janice Sacrey (Fred), Wayne Gollop (Cindy), Bruce Gollop (Sheila), and Brenda Gosse (Stephen), special cousin, Lynn Burry; who has been a tremendous support to her.  She will also be sadly missed by a large circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and close friends.  We would like to make special mention of the new friends she made while living at Masonic Park. Although her time there was brief, she cherished you all.

Pets played a big role in Virginia’s life. Her beloved grand-puppies (Bijoux and Lady) and grand-kitties (Stewart and Sophie) will miss her dearly. Mickey is already waiting for her at the rainbow bridge.

She had a great impact on those around her during her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Saint Luke’s. She was a wealth of knowledge, a beloved colleague, and a source of compassion to those around her.

Virginia was a teacher, a student, a pianist, and avid reader. She had a tremendous thirst for knowledge and loved to talk about what she learned. Many of us got to enjoy the fruits of her knitting skills, which she loved to share.

Thank you to Dr. David Brentall, family doctor, and Dr. John Shik and his team at the Kidney Care Clinic for all their support.

Flowers gratefully accepted.  Donations in Virginia’s name may be made to the Single Parents Association, Beagle Paws, or the SPCA

My deepest condolences to David, Lynn, and all of Virginia’s family and friends. Virginia was a special person – smart, funny, well-read, kind, and compassionate. I will cherish all the conversations we had which ranged from the latest book she was reading to current events, to the best way to turn a heel (in a sock!). Virginia was a treasure. She was much loved and will be missed!
