Wayne Burke

January 14, 1946 to March 10, 2024

Obituary

Wayne Burke passed away at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, on Sunday, March 10th, 2024.  Wayne was born in St. John’s, NL in 1946.  Son of Henry Albert Burke and Madge McKinlay Burke (both deceased).  He is predeceased by his loving brother Barry and sister Lynne.

Wayne was as genuine as they come.  He loved the music of the 50’s and could often be found enthusiastically picking out his latest CDs at Fred’s music store in St. John’s. He could also play piano by ear without any formal training.

Wayne would often say that he appreciated St. Andrews Presbyterian church for the kindness they showed him. He himself helped many a friend in need.

A diet Pepsi in hand, a good CD in the music box and some good food in the oven was enough to make his day.  Wayne loved his family, was a loyal friend, and loved animals.

He will be dearly missed by friends, extended family, and by his nephew Tony who has many good childhood memories of his uncle Wayne.

We will miss you Unc!

I was priveledged to know Wayne from my work at St. Andrew’s Church forthe past 20 years. Wayne was soft spoken, kind and gentle man. I enjoyed our many chats when he would stop by. May you rest in peace Wayne knowing that you touched many lives and will be missed by all.

So sorry to hear of this. We lived across the street on Campbell Avenue from Wayne and his Mom. My condolences to his family and friends

My cousin Wayne was indeed a gentle soul. As small children my sisters, Heather and Jill a D I spent a lot of time with him. When Jill worked at Woolworths on Water St Wayne would secretly wait for her to finish late on Friday nights – then follow her home. She discovered what was going on and confronted him. Wayne replied “ I just want to make sure you got home safe”. A gentle loving soul indeed! Jean McKinlay Muncy

Tony, I am so sorry to hear this news. Wayne “was” a gentle soul and such an interesting person overall. The last time I spent an evening with Wayne was with your mom at my brother Ted’s home. He and I got to talking about 50’s music and our shared love of Elvis and we had so many laughs together. He reminded me so much of Barry. He looked like him and had his mannerisms and as I loved my cousin Barry to death, we spoke of him in great length. It was a beautiful evening for me and I will always cherish it. Rest in peace sweet Wayne.

Sincere condolences on Wayne’s passing.. My family lives two doors up from Wayne’s on Campbell Avenue. We knew him very well. I especially remember his little rub and the top of your head with his knuckles.. My father had a special fondness for him, he would come into Dad’s store on Water Street for dad to fix his record player and buy new needles for it. RIP Wayne, keep entertaining with your music.

Sincere condolences to Wayne`s family. My family lived across from Wayne and his mom on Campbell Ave. What a great guy. Many a times he invited me over to his home to listen to his records and listen to him playing the piano. Boy, could he play those keys. Playing “Wipeout” on the piano was something to behold. RIP Fuzz…..Godspeed

We all knew Wayne from back in the 60’s and 70’s , From Taylor’s store on Campbell where Wayne would go every day for a Spur and bun , then when he would play the music at the area for roller skating .
