Live Funeral Service for the late Wilhelmina Dodge

It is with great sadness we celebrate the passing of the matriarch of the Dodge Family, Wilhelmina Dodge (nee Kelloway) in the 100th year of life. She was always a hard working women who moved to St. John’s from Wesleyville in her mid teens to work in “service” as she called it.

During the war she met her future husband who was a solider about to go overseas to fight in WWII. They agreed to marry after the war and celebrated 50 plus years of marriage. They shared 4 children Shirley, Aubrey, Joseph and Wayne. She worked tirelessly to provide for all of the family from looking after boarders and also working at the hospital until her retirement at the age of 60.

Upon retirement she and her husband spent many years traveling in their motorhome all over Canada, from Newfoundland to British Columbia, and numerous trips into the United States. After the passing of her dear husband she spent every summer traveling to Terra Nova National Park, making trips to New Brunswick in an 18 wheel tractor trailer, to Ontario with her son in the RV, and even traveling internationally to Cuba with family members up until the age of 93.

At the age of 93 she moved to Alderwood Estates in Witless Bay, where she spent her last remaining years with new friends, joined the choir, and even had a dance with the Premier of Newfoundland.

She is predeceased by her parents Samuel and Elizabeth Kelloway; her siblings Emma, Isabel, Wilfred, Charlie and Aubrey; and her loving husband Archer Dodge.

Survived and remembered by her children Shirley Drover (Melvin), Aubrey Dodge (Agnes), Joseph Dodge (Martha) and Wayne Dodge; grandchildren Rodney Drover (Nanette), Darla Kovach (Les), Darren Dodge, Megan Norris (Philip), Adrien Dodge (Lorie), Trevor Dodge (Anna Marie), Precilla Dodge, Callum Dodge and Jake Dodge; great grandchildren Jed Dodge, Steven and Justin Kovach, Melissa and Danielle Dodge, Brandon, Gabriel and Brooke Dodge; great great grandchildren Alexander Dodge and Charlotte Kovach; special grandson Eugene Morgan (Christine) and special great grand children Eugene and Jessica Morgan. As well as special family member Evelyn Dodge.

Special thanks for the love and care that has been shown by the staff and residents at Alderwood Estates, as well as special thank you to Dr. O’Keefe.

Visitation with the family will be at Carnell’s Funeral Home at 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday March 6, 2024 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral service will take place at Carnell’s Memorial Chapel on Thursday March 7, 2024 at 11am with internment to follow.

Please note that Carnell’s is a nut free building due to a staff member with a severe allergy. Thank you for your cooperation.

Aubrey:
Sorry to hear that your mother has passed away. A wonderful long life I’m sure left a lot of good memories. Treasure them. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.

I left Wesleyville in the early fifties and your Mom had left it long before that so I had very little personal contact with her – but oh, how I remember her. Coming for holidays to her parents Uncle Sam and Aunt Lizzie, and I would hear about it before she arrived. (Our house was only 2 doors away from them). I remember Wilhelmina – the beautiful lady, the lovely clothes and her friendly ways, speaking to a shy little girl. I thought she was a queen! I’m sorry I didn’t know she was close by. We could’ve had some wonderful chats.
My sincere condolences to her family.
